Seeing the young Ensign enter, a young French Colonel of Dragoons leaves the bevy of beautiful ladies he is entertaining, places two bottles of vodka on the bar side by side. Teetering back two paces, he steadies himself and neatly cuts the necks off both with one backhand slash of his Mameluke sword, spilling nary a drop. He offers one to the young Ensign, and takes a long swig of his own. With a huge grin on his face, vodka dripping from his chin, he suddenly stops short and seems to stare at something in the distance; as his fellows notice his strange behavior and try to see what it is he is looking at, he just as suddenly turns away, and gives his attention back to the ladies gathered round, as if none of it had just happened.
