It's patch v.1b

Apparently it allows play in a window, improved sound and the smoke does't disappear but can linger and make it all historically murky! Mmmmmm :)

Guys - you need to talk this game up more if you are enjoying it.

So little feedback on the game for the club!

How do you expect us to want to go out and buy it if you don't comment on it? [B)][:0]

Did the last patch correct the issues that were noted? Did the window feature work? Does the game crash? Is it the greatest thing on earth?

The club added the game some time back when it was announced it would be out. Well ...?

as soon as the patch comes out, the game will run smoothly - being a betatester I can say that all the major problems have been adressed in this upcoming patch...the date of 14th July as a release for this patch has been confirmed!

when the game runs smoothly, especially when MP and PBEM work fine, more people will hopefully try the game out...

meanwhile there is a new demo out for all of those who are on the fence but not yet sure if it's worth it! - found on the LG-homepage

if you have any questions, feel free to ask any time!

Good news to hear Roland. Has anyone finished a club game and what were your experiences? Do the units operate correctly? Did you feel that it was worth the expense. It would also be nice to hear from folks that are not beta testers or Harry, who obviously loves the game.

I would like to hear an unbiased account of your experiences. Note: if you had a problem was it addressed by Les Grognards tech support in a timely fashion?

My club game with Harry still goes on.Started Montebello at 10AM now we are at 14:15PM, playing for 17turns(each 15 min.)There are still bugs around CiC doesnt move, game doesnt end when it becomes dark,MP gaming is impossible etc. so we need to wait for the patch on july 14. It ll fix all these problems the creator of the game says.
"Tech support" yes on time honestly...
"Did you feel that it was worth the expense" definetely...

Thanks for the report. More folks need to chime in so that others would be interested in getting the game and playing it here.

I also encourage as many of you that play LG:HW to get folks to join here as members. Expose them to what we are all about! [:)]

What about if I pretended to be someone else?

Actually, the lack of PBEM or MP play dampened my interest. I simply don't get off on solo play. My aspiration for LG is that it will allow from Corps to Leipzig sized battles with a bunch of laptops around a table so I have the miniatures face-to-face atmosphere with the computers doing all the dice rolling and measuring. Without MP that dream was a little stillborn.

Equally, without the fully reliable PBEM option that I was used to with Combat Mission games (that I've been playing now for about 9 years waiting for something ith LG's promise), the game lost its lustre.

However, with the v.02 patch, I'm cautiously optimistic that those promises will be honoured.

LG is a funny game in that you have to let go of the little stuff. It's a tricky jump from a game of division-sized Scourge Of War or Take Command to LG as you simply don't spend all your time panning around the field, clicking on units and defining the flanking position you want them to rush to. The AI will sort all that for you. You give the orders to the corps and sit back to watch the action. Occasionally you intervene to organise something like a collection of batteries or to send a regiment or two into a town to retake it (as I've just done against Rustem/NapLrd in our PBEM). Gosh... I remember reading recently how Napoleon in one of his battles in Italy was busy organising guns while such-and-such was happening. Sounded all just a little LGish. ;P

I suppose I'm suggesting that it can be a little 'light on' the mouse-clicking entertainment style we've all gotten used to. Many will miss or not like that feel.

One feature I would like to see incorporated in the future is a sort of 'free roaming' c-in-c so that I can 'drive' around the field via the mouse a la SoW or TC. Currently the process is one of ordering the HQ to move to a particular position. It's a little less evocative.

It will remain to be seen whether the Napoleonic gamer likes what they find LG:HW does with their troops. Yes, we all would love to see a game engine move our forces in Napoleonic like formations (meaning brigades, etc) and then fight them in a manner which makes sense.

I think that is one reason (and money) why I am hedging on buying the game. I would love to hear from one of the micromanagers of the club that the troops were placed and fought according to how he or they liked with SOME minor issues.

But going to a window will help me to want to play it. Again, just have to be able to justify the purchase with more feedback and the green stuff (money).

In the spirit of 'talking up the game' on these forums, as you recommended Bill, here's a reaction - independent of me - to the latest patch by 'Old Guard' on the Grenadier's forum @ histwar:

"A lot of improvement! Not only graph is much more clear but also the Great AI too! Just yesterday, I acheived a great victory over coalition force (10,000 France against 16,000 Austrain) with less than 10,000 French causulties against over 30,000 Austrain causulties and more than 10,000 prisoners.

Today, I wanted to repeat that victory again. The same map, the same force, the same troop deployment,Guess what!

Just within 3 hrs my two wings are broken!

I have no gut to confront that debacle and exist the game immediately!

What did you do to the Great AI! This is NOT true! Your own me my victory!"

I think the game is providing some good, challenging & entertaining play, by the sound of it.

That's quite a switch in the AI ability. I hope it wasn't too much to the other side of things.

The solo game continues to be the majority of the purchasers of games for PC. It always surprises me how many folks refuse to PBEM.

Provided I can get a job soon I may be buying this game. I intend on trying it out first of course.

Is the demo "windowed" too?
