Mr. Knox,
horses look very different in Europe than in NZ, so I doubt Bluchers faithful steed looked much like that one ;)

Why Jim I have it on very good account that the Prussian cavalry at Auerstedt were all mounted in a similar fashion. They certainly had similar intelligence in their leadership that day[:0].

Source : included in the expletives from a ww2 comic I found in my cupboard.[:)]

I trust the windy city is treating you well, our's is. On that subject I just read a book that reckoned the nickname for Chicago was more to do with bluster around the time of the columbian word fair than your wind.

Might be similar here as we have the political mob and a lot of wind in windy wellington.

Indeed I imagine the Prussian cavalry would have had a lot of wind riding these fellows as well[:o)]

well - the French must really be ashamed now: they got their butt kicked at Waterloo by a Feldmarschall who was riding into battle on a donkey!!!!! [8D][}:)]
and and amazing animal too - all these Allied/Prussian victories in Germany - and then I wonder if the donkey was cold at la Rothière.....

almost seems like the Allies wouldn't have needed horses at all to bring the French down on their knees [:D][:D][:D]

Oh, so that explains why Blucher got dumped at Ligny! I always wondered how the old "war horse" ended up on the ground! [:p]

"Vorwarts you jackass!" [:D]

And getting to Waterloo - always wondered why they showed up in the AFTERNOON rather than in the MORNING! Legend says that the poor beast had had enough of the old growler and dumped him in the mud. Since Blucher had to walk the rest of the officers did too. They were a mess by the time they showed up. Its one reason why the French lost. The mud covered up the Prussian uniform and many of them thought that they were Frenchmen come to join up with them from Grouchy's command.

But hey, we are talking about Waterloo, one of the dumbest battles in history! Lets talk about how the donkey kicked Blucher in the behind at Auerstedt! Or how he tossed him into the Elbe at Wartenberg! [:p][:p][:p]

Jealousy is a shame, you're just angry that Prussia show up at the right minute to ruin the Emperor's tea party with his lil housewife Marshals. Blucher seems to do that over and over again.... [:D] Or was it is nap we interrupted while Ney killed all the horsemen in site?? [:p] French horsemen that is....

Lil Boney is a cranky ol' goat!! [:D]
