150m - as an average Napoleonic era battalion in line covered about 150m.

PS. Cavalry stacking can be easily reduced to adjust to 150m (up to 400-500 cavalry in one hex)

I'd leave it as is for the series norm. If you want to include smaller or larger scale maps for alternate scale battles that would be okay.

Once a map editor is released for the series, if that does happen in the future, then players can play around on thier own.

Although the engine is very flexible, increasing the scale would tend to exagerate its weaknesses. Basically, it would result in asking the game engine to do things it wasn't designed to do. Such has inviting larger multi-day battles, etc.

I know we do that already. ;-)

Smaller hexes (say 50M across) and less stacking per hex (max # of men, horse, etc. that is and not based on number of units at all).

I'm for 100 m hexes. However, some scenarios could and ought to be portrayed on company level scale and hence sets of 30m/hex maps would be welcome. (Voted 5)

For a future game I am developing I am building a 500 meter hex scale brigade level battle. In some cases I will bundle in with the brigade unit the artillery that goes with it. But right now the key is finding the right time scale and the correct stacking level.

Al Amos suggested 1000 meter hexes and 3200 men/8 guns for a possible future Brigade level game we may do. So based on that theory I may go with 1600 men per 500 meter hex. I would go with more guns than he listed though. Not sure on cavalry. But this is a related item and my playtesters and I will give it a go soon.

If this catches on I may develop more maps for you guys to use.

The 3,200 men PLUS 8 guns per brigade as a general average. If only guns then many more, yes.

Ok - problem with using the larger scale maps is that the rout routine will not work. The units rout too far ....
