King Wilhelm Frederick takes the Iron Cross 1st Class from the case held by an aide of the Prussian General Staff.
In a solemn voice with strong emotion, he says, "Major Gause, for valorous action in the service of your konig and country, I award you the Iron Cross, 1st Class!"
He hands the award to the Major's young son. Clasps his firmly on the shoulders with both arms. "Your father was a fine officer and we will never forget his sacrifice on the field of battle!"
Gause's Horse Artillery battery gave Cliff's French V and VII Corps fits until he finally wiped it out in our Jena game. At one time it wiped out 154 French infantry with one shot! Altogether I think it eliminated something like 750+ French infantry (no exaggeration). The battery covered itself with glory and along with a reduced battalion held up the French advance at a key moment in our twin battles game. (hex 48, 134 - French advancing from the south and east and west too!)
Long live Prussia! Hail Konig Frederick Wilhelm!
