This has been talked about before in various threads

The Cabnet is looking for your feedback on this game. Possibly there have been updates to the game that may have fixed earlier bugs.

I thought that the game had a lot of depth to it. As long as you just let the AI resolve the battles. The battle format was kind of hokey.

I enjoyed the diplomatic and economic aspects of the game.

As stated in the Cabinet forum, the version of most use to us would be CoG: EE (Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition). It is the second release of the series & the one currently supported by Matrix. Not that we should add both, why not. But CoG: EE is what most are playing in the series.

Battles are still resolved by the A/I in the MP game.

File play is much more refined than the original and all turns can be played once by every player. Then the last nation (Spain) merges all the turns & executes it, then sends the file out. It is a much simpler process.

The game is quite diverse, in the economic, trade, diplomacy & war aspects, but offers a refreshing change to the HPS systems. I think one of the games the ACWGC uses is by the same company who made CoG.

The game will need for a seperate scoring system too. I'll dig up the iNWC's a bit later. Because the game ranks the final score based one 1st through 8th place I believe. It might need a little fine tuning, but I think it is worth it. We added in HistWar as a seperate system and to be honest, we had scoring systems at the iNWC for the three types of games. If all games can fit that model we are all set for future games just like these. All three systems were equally fair too. I'll piece together an example for everyone....remember, long CoG games can go for 6 months to a year or so....

On the final note I told the Cabinet is....I had mentioned to the group who were members at the iNWC that I am trying to get them a home here. So I hope they will all elect to join if we approve it....

It is really is a great game....

Yup - its what I would have done too if I had remained as President of the club. Was top of my list of things to do. Glad to see it is finally happening after several years.

I have the older version of CoG but if I can find some hidden funds I will buy the better version and give it a whirl. Like I said the only thing I didn't care for was the combat system. Other than that it is a decent looking game.

Had I ever ran for President I would have done the same. Not sure why it has taken all this time. Probably because no one ever raised the issue & also it seemed, in my memory at least, to have been resisted a bit prior.

I believe it was John who added in Empires in Arms. Cannot remember. It is not like he has not tried. I agree - we should have more games. Bring them on! :lol:

I am not opposed to adding Empire in Arms either....but I don't own it...yet at least. I think all of this is a good start. :)

Last time I checked EiA had something like seven phases and in order to play an entire turn each player had to send seven files to get a turn done. Something like 14 emails per turn. Not something that interested many of us.

You could give it a try but hey, will the Cabinet ever be involving the members in the process? I mean why add in a game if none of the members show interest? And frankly I thought that EiA was a club game?

When EiA was discussed, some time ago, it was decided not bring it in to the club simply because of the complexity of the pbem system.

This can certainly be revisited

We are certainly not opposed to member input. I don't know much about the gane, so it would have to be explored pretty good during the consideration process.....it appears to be very popular on the Matrix site though....

For the record the scoring is as follows. It is a two part system, due to the nature of the 1st - 8th place and a game length modifier has been applied, because these games often play like a long Campaign, taking 4 to 6 months to a year sometimes to play a full one.

1st Section: Points for End of Game Ranking

1st Place - 16pts
2nd Place - 14pts
3rd Place - 12pts
4th Place - 10pts
5th Place - 8pts
6th Place - 6pts
7th Place - 4pts
8th Place - 2pts

Section 2: Game Length Modifier

6 Months to 2 Years - 2pts
3 to 5 Years - 6pts
6 to 10 Years - 8pts
11 to 15 Years - 10pts
20 to 23 Years - 16pts

Blimey, 16 points? You only get 2 points for completing 500 turns at Jena, and only that if you win....lose and you get bugger all.

And as for game length modifyers, well many of my campaign games drag on well over a year. One is in to 3 years now in fact. Same with others I guess. So why don't we get game length modifyers too? :(

I am not so certain that game length modifiers are a good idea myself. It would seem to reward a player for stalling and/or simply playing slowly. Playing games more quickly generates much more activity within the club. People play at the pace they can manage. The length of their game should not be a factor for reward, and certainly not if they take longer to complete it. Victory points should be for winning games, period.

I also agree with Andy that the victory points for that particular game are not in any way compatible with the victory points obtained in HPS play. I do not have any objections to adding new games into the club, but the rewards system for all games must be consistent across the board.

I would love to hear a logical explanation as to how this is fair to our HPS players. I believe some more thought is needed here.
