I have free wifi in my hotel in Xian china and thought I would ad something to the question about adding battle records to the DoR.

I think it was Scott Clawson asking Pierre about adding the ability to get a potential opponent's battle record from the DoR, if I understood the question correctly, here is why that function is not available in the DoR.

The simple answer is that the DoR is run on Dominic Derwinski's personal server. This means that care must be taken to ensure that there is not a drain on server resources when queries are run.

I realize that getting simple win/loss/draw counts does not seem complicated if we are only talking about 1 person doing 1 query but imagine what happens if many people start doing it?

It is for the same reason that the reporting features are restricted to army CinC's only.

Dominic can correct me if I am wrong.

Why don't we just get a monthly data dump and post the records like we used too?
A CSV can normally be got from a database fairly easily and XL type information loaded on a website equally easily.

It so happens I own the URL grandarmee.net which you guys are free to use until I need it.

Actually, Colin, you basically read my mind. I do not know the details of the way this was handled in the past, but I had already planned to provide the membership with these records. Our current DoR system will generate a Muster Report for each army at the push of a button. As I only have access to my army, I asked Dominik to run a set for me for all armies about a month ago. I have been in correspondence with him today on the matter and was going to ask for an updated set tomorrow. I was then going to distribute this to the membership every month. It is very simple to do. All in all, it probably does not take five minutes from report generation to delivery.

Now, this is not the same as being able to access the detailed records directly in our DoR, but it will provide everyone in the club a current copy of every member's Unit Assignment and Battle Record. Not the end of the process, but I thought it was a start.
