In my election campaign, I promised to offer an Input Survey to our membership in an attempt to determine what you felt were the most important issues that your Cabinet should address. I felt that our DoR System was the most critical issue, and personally stepped in to resolve it. The backlog in the system has been eliminated, at least in terms of the end game results that directly affect your promotions and medal awards. The responsibility to see that these are properly posted to our websites then passes to the respective Army Commanders to ensure that your achievements are recognized in a timely manner. We have also succeeded in creating a viable method for you to view all of the officer's records and contact information. It is a good start.

I personally think that the next issue we should address is the timely, and accurate, maintenance of our websites. It is my opinion, that these websites should all be kept current within two weeks of real time. That is my personal goal, although I do not have any access or authorization to make changes to any of them. We depend entirely on our webmasters for these duties. Whether or not this goal is attainable remains to be seen. I sincerely hope that it is.

I have told you my thinking, now I want to hear yours. I have included a poll in this forum post. In it, I have listed some of the items that I discussed in my election campaign to become your President. Please take a moment to select the three items that you think are the most important to you as a member of our club. These are the three things that you want your Cabinet to focus on as thier priorities for improving our club for you. I would hope to have enough input over the next couple of weeks to discern the areas on which our members think we should focus. In the meantime, I will be discussing our website procedures with the Cabinet, all Army Commanders, and all Chiefs of Staff to improve my personal understanding of the system we currently have in place, and who is reponsible for each duty.

We sincerely appreciate your input for, without our members, we cease to exist.

Thank you for your participation.

Thank you for being an active officer of the NWC. [Salute!]

Other:

1. Communication within the club by medium club manager level (Corps, division and brigade).

2. Training of members and followup after they are finished with training.

3. MP games with new and existing members by brigade and division leaders as one of their priorities as a commander. I feel that this is where division and brigade leaders are lacking. They should be looking to get into a MP game with one of their members on at LEAST and annual basis. Most of them are probably playing the large battles. It is MUCH more fun to have someone in the game on your side ... much more historical. We being mainly "control freaks" as players.

I remember one ACWGC member saying that except for tournaments the ONLY format he would play was the MP game. Just too much fun and they remind me a bit of the Saturday gaming we did at friend's houses. The banter is a ton of fun. It sure beats "your move" or "over to you." (YAWN .... boring ... ad nosium deplorus - my own phrase at the end there for you Latin majors)

I vote that we make February our annual MP Game month. All commanders should be looking to engage their junior officers in a MP game. Even if each player only gets a corps to use they are worth it. I am in one in a playtest game and it has been a blast. In fact playtesting seems to be more effective in a MP format as you get to hear more comments about the scenario as you play.

Bill, I have long advocated, and always practiced, the activity levels by our Brigade, Division, and Corps commanders as you have suggested. Marco and I are actually working together to make this a reality in the Anglo-Allied Army. I honestly cannot say, because I actually do not know, what is being done in this regard in the other club armies. I sincerely believe that this active leadership model will have a profound, positive effect on the well being of our club if followed. I think it will serve to increase the level of fun and interest for all officers, but will require a certain degree of commitment and dedication (also time, of course) on the part of our army's leaders. As the Presidency of this club is technically a "civilian" position, I can only advocate that this model be adopted and encouraged throughout the club. The final decision as to how this is applied really rests with the Army Commanders themselves.

Rest assured though, you have a very strong advocate in me in this regard.

Now, the portion of your post concerning the MP game play has given an officer under my command an idea that I think is worth pursuing. At his suggestion, I am going to make a series of posts over many days highlighting the bantor and fun that can be had in a MP game with the men under one's command.

Good show Mark. Communication has been a sticking point with me both as a commander and as a junior member in a regiment for some now in ALL clubs. It is not unique to here. In the ACWGC I got a welcome aboard message from my immediate CO and then it was pretty much you are on your own.

I would not advocate weekly or even monthly emails but just something right on quarterly to each member of the brigade or division. Members should participate in some sort of brigade challenge. Award admin points (I prefer to call them Conduct points as admin sounds more like they are only for HQ) to those that participate in the annual events. For those members who treat the club solely as a ladder experience that should interest them ... on their rise to glory ... :P
