The armies of each of the combatant nations were assembled on both sides of the roadway, swords drawn and arms presented. All eyes tracked the procession of a tricolor draped caisson which was followed by a rider less horse bearing the boots of its master mounted backwards in the stirrups. Officers of all nations snapped pristine salutes in tribute to their fallen comrade as the caisson passed before them. With great reverence, the procession continued to the cemetery where the noble warrior was to be laid to rest.

It is with great sadness that I must report to you today the passing of Général Sam Dodson, formerly in command of the 2ème Compagnie du 3ème Régiment d'Artillerie à Cheval, 1ère Division, 1er Corps d'Armée, La Grande Armée.

May God keep you in the palm of His hand. Rest in peace, our noble and honorable friend. You will certainly be missed.

That's very sad indeed even if I didn't know him.

There is an obituary online.

I was afraid this was coming.....a great guy! He not only served here but at the ACWGC and with my French Army at the iNWC where he was one of the original members and head of my Reserve Cavalry for years. A good guy, he always volunteered for Tourney's and was always around for games with people. He was a prolific gamer too.

He will be missed!

Sam and I met on the field of battle early 2005 and we continued gaming until his untimely death. Unfortunately we never met but I have lost a good friend.

RIP Sam.

God bless Sam and his family. We played once when I got started in Talonsoft years ago, and he taught me a lot, was very patient and willing to share his insights with a new ki don the block. I know that in the great gig in the sky there is a wargaming club for shooting stars such as him!

I knew Sam from the beginning of the NWC and American Civil War Gaming Clubs. We were in the same corps for many years, and I also gamed against him in the ACWCG. He was a prolific gamer as evidenced by his record.

He achieved 2564 administrative points. There is a very elite group in La Grande Armee that have that many.

Sam had been awarded the Legion of Honor, the Croix de la Valeur, and the Ordre de la Couronne en fer.

Under previous qualifications, he had earned a title and command in the Imperial Guard, Comte de Savoy et Baron de l'Empire.

After a 10 month fight with cancer, he died on Oct. 12.

He was a staunch and steady fellow officer and member, and a good friend. We will miss him.
