Here is an AAA army publication, send to all officers in our mighty army;

(start of letter)

'Dear Mr Mark,
I finally have a break between hostilities with our combined enemy. My servant arranged a good diner with an expensive wine from the French captured supply train and yes, with the light of my small lantern I am able to write you this letter.

I am afraid I have to bring very, very sad news. The King and our Prince were pushing me quite some time to bring you this message. But I simply couldn’t do it. No I could not get the words to the expensive paper always use. Well, you know what I use. The paper with my own weapon shield that I store in the silver case.

Mr Mark, you cannot longer be my staff adjutant. No. It’s over. You cannot longer serve me diner, brush my expensive uniform with the golden epaulettes. You will never be able to work till deep into the night while I am already sleeping. Yes I know it sounds hard.

I tried to tell the King and the Prince that we can award you something special. I proposed to send you Helga. This was refused. Then I offered to send cheap wine and cigars from my own huge eh, small stock. But no, it was not good enough.

So, after a long discussion last night with various important staff ladies officers we decided that we cannot longer avoid to promote you to:

Chief of Staff of the mighty AAA.

Well, there is nothing more to say. I am sure you will often think about the good old times as adjutant. But there is no turning back now.

Greetings Sir, with honour and respect,
Generaal Bijl'

(end of letter)

The word has quickly spread thru the encampments of La Grande Armee...
The promotion of the Brigadier, not only highlights the obvious talents of that Hanoverian commander, but also is a portent of the future of our eternal struggle with the foes of our French Imperium.

Brigadier Jones sets the standard of what a commander of a unit should do to ensure his officers are as prepared as they can be when they set forth upon the battle maps.

His interactions with officers of all armies are par excellent.

Even as I raise my glass, I wonder at the gathering war clouds upon the grey horizon, and the flash of lightning that heralds the new epoch that is upon us all.

Brigadier, salute!

Regards,

Entering the tavern and hearing the speach of my esteemed fellow French officer - I immediatly shout out "I second the comments of my fellow officer and join in a toast to the Brigadier" ( while whispering in Helga's ear - these drinks are on the Brigadier's tab this night - oui ? )

The old Field Marshall hears the news and chuckles to himself...I remember when we nearly shot the lad he muses to himself. Aloud he says,"Oh well, there is always tomorrow". :D

Congratulations Brigadier. Well done.

Now, as chief of staff, could you kindly ensure that a certain DB division stays in its assigned location on a certain late spring day in the year, oh, perhaps 1815. For their own safety of course.

Cheers!

Congratulations Mark for the new position!

It's a great time to celebrate on the French side because we all know that he has reached his Peter Principle level. So now it's only down the hill for the AAA army.

Thanks, gentlemen. I am truly humbled by your very kind comments. :? :? :?

And thanks to my commanding officer, Generaal Bijl, who has taken an awful risk in promoting a Mad Hanoverian to an office with such responsibility.

And now brave warriors of the Napoleonic Era, the drinks are all on me tonight!
