Congratulations, Dominik! I couldn't be more proud of you. You are a very great asset to our club, and I revel in your achievement of the highest rank in La Grande Armee!

And thanks again, Al, for letting all of us know outside of the private environs of Pierre's. I have long been a huge fan of Dominik, and even went so far as to personally endorse him for a position on this Club's Cabinet some months ago. He did not win the position, but I assure you, it was not for a lack of my trying. If you had not told me of this momentous achievement, it would likely have taken even me a couple of months to stumble blindly upon it myself.

Stay as long as you want, and drink all you can Marechal Derwinski. I am exceedingly proud to be personally buying tonight.

Gentlemen,

I must say that it is very touching to recieve such rank and honor on December 2nd, 207th anniversary of the Battle of Austerlitz. Is this a coincidence, or was this planned? The III Corps played a very important role in that battle, being the final part of an anvil upon which the Allied attack faltered - later to be crushed by Soult's IV Corps hammer - and doing this after 48 hours of forced march. This wasn't yet the pinnacle of Auerstedt, but still a great martial achievement. My hat is off to the real Iron Marshall, his divisional commanders and the men who fought under their command. Let us all remember them, as we bask in our digital glories. After all, the only thing that we risk fighting battles are our eyes and wrists...

Also, I'd like to point out that I know I'm not up to par with most of you when comparing battle records, since my rank was awarded to me because of the work I do "at the rear" of the Grandee Armee. I'm a marechal of logistics, supplies and administration rather than a marechal of the battlefield. Such is my burden to bear, and I bear it gladly. Those "soft factors" cannot be underestimated. More men perished in the Napoleonic wars due to illness, lack of food or quarters on time, lack of proper uniforms and timely remounts, than to bullets and swords. I hope you all understand that not all batons have to be won on the field of glory and they are not lesser due to that fact.

To all who shall see these presents, Greetings. Know ye that reposing special trust and confidence in the abilities of Mssr. Dominik Derwinski, we do hereby appoint him a Marechal d’Empire, to be given every respect and privilege of that rank and to be subject to and under the orders of L'Empereur.

Today, we present Mssr. Derwinski, Grand Maréchal du Palais de la Maison de l'Empereur, with his baton, and rank of Marechal d’Empire. This is quite an occasion as no baton has been awarded in several years. No one has done more to earn the rank. In 2010 Marechal Derwinski stepped into the breach when we most needed his skill. Since then, he has maintained the Department of Records, contributing his time and effort for the benefit of all in NWC, and has become the commanding officer of III Corps and has led it with skill and honor.

Soldier, I am pleased with you! You have justified all that I had expected from your courage, and you have honored your eagles with immortal glory.
