Gentlemen Officers of the NWC:
The following narrative is a proposal that I made to the Cabinet a couple of weeks ago. The purpose of this proposal is to simplify the scoring of our games, particularly as it applies to the difficulties encountered when resolving the ongoing games of an officer who transfers from LGA to a Coalition Army, or vice versa. This proposal was unanimously approved with virtually no discussion by every member of our Cabinet. Basically, they all immediately thought it was a good idea that made sense. OK, so I admit that is probably a first for me, but even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while.
As the Cabinet has approved this proposal, and as this does represent a major change in the scoring of our games, the proposal now passes to the membership for a vote and any discussion in which the general membership of our club wishes to engage. The Club Rules state that the voting must be open for a minimum of two weeks. I will extend that by a few days to the end of the day on December 21st of this year. After that, according to the Mayan Calender, or at least so I am told, the world will end anyway. I am going to stay in close contact with Colin Knox during that time, as he will know from New Zealand if the world actually ended on that date or not about 18 hours before I will here in the United States. On the off chance that the world is still around on the morning of the 22nd, I will set about resolving the affected games in whatever manner you have seen fit to approve. Hopefully, I will be able to give all of the affected officers credit for OBD points that they have actually earned by Christmas so that Santa can put it in their stockings. I know tis better to give than receive, but most of the folks I know like getting a little something once in a while to. Without further ado, the following is the exact text that I posted in the Cabinet Forum pertaining to this proposal:
I am currently working to resolve all of the issues in our records system to facilitate the transfer of Clifton Seeney from La Grande Armee to the Prussian Army. I have to tell you, under our current system of record keeping, this is a major headache. As a result, I would like to propose something far more simple as follows:
1.) Officers participating in both Fights and Maneuvers will receive full OBD points for the actual number of turns played. This would be in accordance with our current rules for the scoring of Fights.
2.) Officers participating in Maneuvers will receive neither Victory Points nor a Victory Result for the outcome of their Maneuvers. In other words, Manuevers will now be played exclusively for the OBD points.
If we make these two simple changes for all games within our club, the resolution of ongoing games in the event of an officer transfer will become very easy. Rather than scrambling to determine where each game stands so that we can close it out at the time of the transfer, and interupting games in progress due to a need to seperate the half point turns from the full point turns, we would simply cancel the current game registration and enter a new one with an adjustment for the type of battle it has become (i.e. Fights become Maneuvers and Maneuvers become Fights). This will also prevent officers from having any impact on the battle records of their fellow officers from the same side of the club, while allowing all officers to be promoted at the pace of the game turns they are actually completing.
