The newly assigned aide de camp cautiously approached the table near the back of the tavern, the one by the fire frequented by the Marechaux and other high ranking officers of la Grande Armee. In his hand, he carried a dispatch, the encumbrance of seals and stamps affixed to it, gave credence to its import. He had faced the fire of the coalition guns many a time, but their fury worried him little in comparison to this group of warriors. Marechal Corbin, deep in thought, Marechal Knox espousing yet another forward thinking theory on the art of war (something about oscillation if he heard correctly), Marechal Kling, General Schmidgall, and several others. Stopping short of the table, the aide, softly cleared his throat.

"Sir? Monsieur le Marechal, I have the authorization from headquarters you requested. Shall I ..."

Swiftly cutting the young officer off in mid-sentence, Marechal Bardon spoke, " Sir, you had best get used to dealing with senior officers, and if you intend to get the attention of this lot, and our esteemed colleagues from the backwards thinking ancien regimes that assail the forces of liberty at every turn, speak louder. Go on. Just make the announcement. The Grande Armee is ascendant and you'd best get used to making these types of pronouncements, as I am sure many more will follow."

Outside, a deep baritone voice intoned the call to assemble:

Emboldened, the aide began reading.

Assembled officers of la Grande Armee, today is a day to celebrate the elevation of one of your own, an officer whose exemplary battle record remains one of the best in the Armee. He has met the stringent requirements of victory and service, and as a reward, is elevated to the ranks of la Vieille Garde.

General de Division, Grande Duc Ramon Cipressi, congratulations!

You have earned your passage in to the elite of the elite.

Sir, you are hereby ordered to present yourself to Marechal Knox, commandant de la Vieille Garde. There is a regiment of Chasseurs that is in need of a commander.

Congratulations, Sir!!!

My heartiest congratulations to the newest member of the Old Guard.

I am sure he is buying because his new title means a bigger pay packet :D

Salute!

While the AdC was reading the Imperial dispatch aloud the Chevalier had stopped his conversation with Marechal Kling about a certain village named Nibma in Saxony.

When the young officer had finished, the General added his voice to the chorus of congratulations...

Well done Ramon!
Glory and honor to your new command of Chasseurs-a-cheval!

Regards,

Marechal Knox lept to his feet his hand on his sword.

"General Cipressi front and centre, sir you are assigned to command my old regiment the greatest light cavalry in the world, Ramon you are now officially the commandant 'Chasseurs a Cheval de la garde'.

This beloved regiment is responsible for providing the 22 elite guides of our Tondu's personal bodyguard.
Sir with our leaders consent I bestow this great honour on you and I feel certain you are worthy of it.

Gentlemen I give you the commander of the guides, General Cipressi!"

Milord, Gentlemen

the attention you had for my work is just a great recognition for me.
In effect is the first time that the HQ notes my quite invicted sword (also in the multiplayer losed match, my army was practically untouched and my soldiers end the last turn in safe position).
It's really a pity that my experience is not so far useful to young Officers, due to the fact the Talonsoft engine is now replaced by new systems in which I had to restart to learn, if not tactic and strategy, at least the new "mechanisms" of the new engines.
At the end of the day, my Era is passed and I remain only an Old Grognard.
But this is the life: "Sic transit Gloria mundi"...

But the recogniction is a real satisfaction and I thank you very much for the Honour, accepting with great pleasure. Thank you Milord!

Regarding the Old Guard, I had just in past the command of 2éme Régiment Chasseursà Cheval Vieille Garde, in any case thank you also for this great further honour.

A thank to all Officers but a special thank to the CIC Mark Jones, which, a long time ago (15 years?), when I was a rookie, was my first Master.
Evidently his lessons didn't pass unobserved.

Thanking you again, Milord, for the consideration, my Sword remain at your full disposal.

Vive la France !

Ramon
