"Monsieur, I do not jest in such matters. When I declared that the Grande Armee is ascendant, I meant it. The rewards for the glories won on the field of battle is initiation into la Garde Imperiale. Advancement to the Moyenne or Vieille Garde is a most particular honor."

"And being your aide,sir?" The young officer quizzically asked, regretting the words almost as soon as they issued forth from his mouth.

The grizzled warrior thought for a moment, then replied, " Well, sir, I suppose you could always return to the line, facing against Sir Muddy's assualt on the right at Lutzen or with the rear guard holding back Field Marshal Blackburn's hordes at Leipzig."

The aide quitely reached out, took hold of the next missive and headed off to see to its delivery.
