... if I may ...

In the original magnificent painting there was a voice balloon above his right hand that read, " Lord Wellington, you brilliant bastard. Welcome to my hasty retreat into oblivion and depression."

A decade later, the forefathers to modern day graffiti artists broke into the museum and painted the hat onto it. By that time the world felt sorry for the old goat and left the hat in place.
