Gents,
What are your favorite scenarios? And why?

I just started a Battle of Lutzen (from Campaign Bautzen) and it is one of my favorites. I like it because it features a bold attack by the Coalition and a raw French army strong on infantry but weak on cavalry. I find the intensity of the fighting and the events leading up to the battle fascinating.

Dennewitz is another favorite (from Leipzig). I really like that both sides get to attack and defend. And both sides have high quality, well balanced armies.

Five Days in April from Eckmuhl is also a favorite, for the same reasons as Dennewitz.

And, Marengo, again, very balanced, is a nail biter.

I can play all four of these over and over again.

Waterloo/Wavre variant with early start. I get to deploy the French and can deploy them historically when I want to.

Wagram. Especially ones with large maps that allows maneuvering space.

Borodino. I own la Batille de la Moscau. (sp?) Just a fun bash 'em up battle.

Marengo is right up there with Smolensk from 1812 a good one too. You all should play the Battle of Amberg, a real sleeper from RBR. I am in the middle of Permasens from RBR with Mark Nelms. Its a "non-club" game ... he and Jim are playing me in games to keep my "Napoleonic spark" alive.

I must admit to being more prone to want to play something the size of Marengo and smaller these days. Lots of medium sized battles in the inventory for sure!

For Club Games: I prefer the Single Phase mode of play. I prefer to play with the following options OFF:

MDF, VP4LC, NRO, MTD, CMR, PR, MIM, NDM, OMR (ver 4.07)

I enjoy the largest scenarios for some reason; probably because the player can decide on the strategy to employ as compared to the set piece battles in the medium to shorter scenarios. As the commanding general, you decide on where you want to engage the enemy rather than the pre-arranged historical contests. Just my preference.

I've been fortunate to have Ed Blackburn as a reliable opponent over the past six or more years. We've played the Moravia scenario (24a) (Austerlitz), Four Nations Collide scenario (13a) (Jena-Auerstedt), and currently the Leipzig Campaign with dusk approaching on the first day. We've switched sides to give each of these mammoth scenarios a thorough workout.

It is difficult to choose a favorite, although the Leipzig Campaign we're currently engaged in is playing differently than any other Leipzig scenario I've played (Operational Leipzig scenarios) which makes it very entertaining with all the possibilities. The open ended strategies that can be employed by the players can make for some nervous moments at HQ, hoping you planned accordingly...

After a considerable absence from the Eagles in which time many new scenarios have been added, I would say that from very recent and ongoing experience, Marengo is an excellent challenge. Perhaps in recognition of my current Austrian opponent, the honourable Josef Seidl.
