Help question. The new update shows Front and a percentage. I assume this is how many musket can fire out of the total but I'm not completely sure and how is the percentage determined?

That is correct.
The front is 100 meters, showing the percentage of the unit headcount that can fit into the frontage of one hex. The maximum headcount that one hex can fit into a 100-meter front is 540. Anything above that will have to be deployed behind the front three rows (for three-rank infantry) and will be prevented from firing. For example, a battalion of 800 will have a significant percentage of its men masked by the first three rows. The percentage indicates how many men can utilize their muskets within the 100-meter front. The rest of the firepower is wasted.

Furthermore, there is another dimension to consider – the number of digital soldiers that can fit into a 100-meter front is determined not by the number of men but by the number of companies and size.

Page 21 of the document contains a section on Infantry Deployment Principles and Tactics, which explains this in detail with images and other illustrations.

A bit lengthy and complicated so I do not copy it here.
