I have created an alpha version of a Napoleonic Aide-de-Camp. It can analyze battle plans, and has access to some literature that would have been used by officers of the time. Please let me know what you think of it.

I personally am quite impressed.

Superb!
Well done! I assume it was also trained on the WDS manual PDF? I had previously fed the manual to ChatGPT myself—though I’m not sure if the chat was able to relate the manual to this particular Aide de Camp.

I played around with it a while back, but its main weakness seemed to be interpreting the map—especially when it came to recognising distances, doing the VP analysis and estimating ETAs. That may have changed since then and I am sure it will continue to improve.
Hope to see this evolve further to help the players.

I did feed the NWC manual into it, as well as the Intro to Napoleonic Battles Series by WDS. They are in its permanent memory so it can access it any time. Do you know of any other documents I may want it to know about?

I think the current list of materials is already comprehensive and I cant think of any additional documents to include.

The next challenge for the chat, I believe, is teaching it how to read the terrain from images—specifically, recognizing hexes and counting them to estimate distances. It failed to read the terrain in my last attempt.

I was going to suggest that this tool could be taught to read and make sense of the OOB files, but I just had a chat with old chap Rapp (aka the AI), and apparently it already does! Yet to be tested, but impressive so far!

I imagine that at the beginning of a battle, the first step would be to provide a scenario-specific OOB so Rapp can understand unit strength, morale, etc, and take this info into account.

I suppose the PDT can be thrown in there as well.

My understanding is that if you upload the OOB file it should be able to read it. The problem is that if you need multiple sessions for a scenario, it won’t remember what happened in the last session so you’ll have to give it the file again. Same with the PDT I assume.
