<br />1. Name this French officer:
Born 1865.
To him is attributed to be the recipient of one of the most confusing set of orders for a major battle of the Napoleonic period (hint: not Rev Wars).
In the Peninsula he was one of the most capable subordinate commanders.
Sentenced to death in absentia after the wars by the Bourbons, he ran an inn at Bayreuth until an amnesty in 1825 permitted him to return to France.
Became Govenor-General of Algeria at one point.
Became a Marshall of France in 1843.
2. Wellington's Chief of Intelligence during much of the Peninsular Wars.
Wellington declared him to be worth a brigade of troops.
3. Described by Wellington as a very clever man, he earned celebrity as both an author an statesman in his native Spain.
Became disillusioned with Godoy. Imprisoned (for heresay) in Majorca from 1801 to 1808.
Later became a member of the central junta.
Died in 1811 after having helped reorganize the Cortes and bring about the downfall of the junta.
His writings included fiction but most notable were his political and legal treatises.
4. This nobleman once said that if Satan were to take human form the result would be Napoleon.
He was a man who would be king.

Correct on #3 - incorrect on #4. Remember - this guy would become a king. The duc d'Enghien never made it to the throne.
