Ok Ok, I'm playing my first full fledged man against man HPS game ever. I was under the impression that the designers at HPS were aware that skirmishers take over games and had dealt with it. So far, I see no signs of that as basically, I can't get at anything without skirmishers in front of me. I shoot em, they stand their ground and give (for their size) as good or better then they recieve. So I melee em and , wow, I'm losing melees with battalions charging them. What's next? Do I have to Cavalry charge just to get the buggers out of the way? Seems pretty odd to me. I know I know, we have all kinds of house rules but I say, why can't the guys that design the games deal with this stuff instead of us. If a line comes on skirmishers their fire should have disproportionate effect? If I melee skirmishers with a formed unit, I should automatically win? Something along these lines should keep skirmishers on more of a leash by their owners. As it it now, well frankly I think it's ridulous. Sorry, if this comes across as a bit harsh but why don't one of you tell me how I'm wrong.[:(!]

Which game are you playing?

Have you installed the latest update from the HPS website?

Can you send Rich Hamilton at the support site a game file showing this happening?

What was the size of the battalian vs. the size of the skirmishers?

I dont have a problem with pushing skirmishers out of the way as long as its in open terrain.

And yes, running them over with a few charging cavalry squadrons wipes them out (for the most part) but you should be able to "push" them out of the way.

And no, skirmishers do not own the game. In the latest patch (unless you turn ON a setting "No Skirmisher Overruns") skirmishers get overrun by retreating defenders, get outshot by Austrian lines and so on.

We cant answer your rant without seeing what the problem is. Send Rich a file when you get a chance. Its the best way to deal with any issue with the games.

Don,

The address to use is Support@hpssims.com and please make sure and zip the file prior to sending, and include detailed comments on what you want me to review.

Regards,
Rich

Many a Frenchman has been foiled by cunning British skirmishers.

I am Lt. Golen's opponent and some of the skirmisher victories have been in Chateau's and woods but a few have been in the open but with on-map-results it is impossible for me to tell if he is meleeing with skimishers or battalions.

That said, I am having the best skirmisher performance ever in the 5 years of HPS games I have played. This is the third time I have played HPS QB and the other two times my skirmishers did not do this well. Perhaps it is the revenge of the computer gods avenging me for a humiliating defeat at Borodino at the hands of LT. Golen back in 2001.

LOL, well Jim now I have to look myself in the mirror and view the little baby that threw the big public temper tantrum. At any rate, the turn is off to Rich so I'm curious to see what he has to say about it. I guess now I know what's possible and what's basically impossible. Under impossible: getting surrounded skirmishers out of a village.
