My wife's cousin at Christmas supper was saying he had a relative named Eichorn in the King's Rangers during the American War of Independence. Eichorn was a German.
I appeal to the wealth of knowledge in this group. I stated my own belief that the KGL would havee been the group and that he would have been something along the lines as Hanoverian.

Quick check for records at regiments.org, and you relative is correct. Take a look:

The King's Rangers or Roger's Rangers were in service from 1779-1784

http://www.regiments.org/regiments/na-u ... prxref.htm

The King's German Legion 1803-1816 did not come into service until 1803.

Here's a good link on the King's Rangers:

Keep in mind, just because they are German and fought for the King, doesn't mean they were Hanoverian. Most German units in the American Rev as mercenaries were Hessian.

The Only "King's Rangers" I know of is the one that's the sort of decendent to Roger's Rangers of the French and Indian War:

If that's the case, then this person would have already emigrated to North America before joining, so you'd pretty much need to track down a muster list and run genealogy to have any chance of figuring out where in Germany he was from originally.
