Gentlemen, who knows: what kind of bridge is across the Traun river at Ebelsberg - of wood or stown?
I tried to break it with a sortie of 600 furious Grenzers - no result
but the message: Cannot overrun enemy units in destination hex. But the attacked hex on the bridge is empty... .[:(!][?]

All bridges (those added by the Scenario Editor) in the games are the same - there is no difference between them.

To melee a bridge you select the bridge hex (it has to be empty).
Then pull down the Melee menu. Pick Begin Melee. Then select the units you wish to melee with and pull down the Melee menu again. Pick Add to Melee. Then press the button on the toolbar to perform the melee.

Rules: the unit has to be in a hex that can be used to enter the bridge. More than one unit can melee. You can melee from two sides of the bridge hex. Cannon fire also will damage the bridge too.

Bill, not sure about melees from both sides, but if you melee from one side only one unit may melee at once (it happened to me many times - you can melee only once and only with one unit. After that you receive "all units in destination hex have already meleed"). Also it may be useful to know that cavalry, infantry in line and skirms become disordered after melee of the bridge. Infantry in colomn does not.

Anton is right, I can only get one unit to melee a bridge in a single turn and I don't think it has to do with selection of optional rules. I had no idea though that cavalry could even try to melee a bridge to be honest.

It can, I have done if often. Nor does it disrupt. (You have this seen in our Jena game, my squadron in Rudolstadt meleed the bridge for 20 turns on end without disposing of it.)

" I can only get one unit to melee a bridge in a single turn "

Per hex is the limit, I believe so you can attack a bridge from both ends at once.

The only way to take a bridge so I hear. [;)]
