Gentlemen and Officers of All Armies
I propose a tournament in cemmomoration of ten years of NWC! We start planning it now. More details are forthcoming in the next NWC Newsletter to be published in July, so stay tuned. However, you can look at the proposed games and scenarios before we begin and offer your comments. Go to webpage:

and install the "YTAT" group of games. This is a Talonsoft NIR "add on" based on six games released years ago by NiR Project, and all based on battles 1805-1806 between Russia, Prussia/Saxony, Austria, and France.
There are about a dozen proposed 'official' scenarios in the installed group of games. My favorites are the hypothetical ones, all based from historical forces and mapboards, and balanced, but kept to manageable sized meeting engagements of one corps for each side. To keep to the nature of the tournament feel, these are designed for maximum playability and balance. These are highly manuever type scenarios, with plenty of open field, and all combined arms. The hypothetical scenarios all are designed around a "capture the flag" mentality. Essentially, a major victory can only be gained by capturing the opponents line of communications which is a single hex on the rear edge of the mapboard. A minor victory can be had by gaining 100 VP more than the opponent while not giving up your own rear objective hex. The hypothetical scenarios are from 20 to 30 turns, to keep them short. Also, usually the Allies have a 5 to 15% numerical advantage to offset the higher quality of the French.
Here's the simplest way to install. All you need in a working installed directory of Talonsoft NIR. Do this:
1. Copy NIR directory to another directory
2. Rename the copy to YTAT
3. Go into the YTAT directory and delete all sub-directories.
4. Go to
http://nap.phxsim.com/downloads/ and download the file named YTAT.zip into the YTAT directory and unzip, overwriting all files if asked.
5. Download the other files labeled ytat_XX.zip (where XX=bd, ck, ff, etc.).
6. Now recreate the sub-directories BD, CK, FF, GR, SR, and SU. These will be empty sub-directories. Move each downloaded ytat_bd.zip file to the BD subdirectory and unzip. Repeat for the other five.
7. Voila. Your installation is complete. In the YTAT directory, just double click on BG_START.EXE and the tournament games will begin ...
ALL FOR FREE!
More info to follow. Your suggestions and comments are welcome. We'll begin the tournament sometime soon, to be discussed ...
