A small group of musicians enter the Tavern and begin to tune their instruments. FM Sir Muddy Jones of the King's Household Guard Cavalry is with them. Reaching into his jacket, he pulls out a French Marechal's baton and taps it on the back of a nearby chair. "Tap, tap, tap," and the musicians take their ready positions and face the Field Marshal. "A one, and a two, and a three..." and the small orchestra begins to play the French National Anthem with Sir Muddy conducting.

Naturally, the French officers in the Tavern stand as one and begin to sing. After the song has ended, Sir Muddy stands upon a chair and addresses the Tavern's occupants.

"The music this evening is in honor of Marechal Theron Lambert, who has defeated my Austrian army on the fields of Eckmuhl. The outcome was a major victory for M. Lambert and I have given him another one of my fine German-crafted swords (he recently defeated me at Waterloo to gain his baton).

And so, it appears that I have run into a small obstacle in my quest for Marechal batons. But I am sure that this is not the last time that Monsieur Lambert and I will share the field of battle.

"Helga, drinks around the Tavern in honor of Marechal Lambert -- my purse of course."

FM Sir 'Muddy' Jones, KG
2nd Life Guards, Household Cavalry

Gentlemen,

Thank you Sir Muddy.

While all that Sir Muddy has said is technically accurate it does not reflect how close the battle was -- up until the last 7 or 8 turns of the 54 turn battle the outcome was in doubt. Only when the Austrian artillery was silenced due to lack of ammunition did the battle turn decisively toward a French victory.

Congratulations Marechal Lambert.
I'm sure, it was a hard fight.

Thanks to Sir Muddy for his round. It's always a pleasure to share a glass with a gentleman like you. However, I see that you batton quest is not a success at all [:D]

Best regards
