Ok, quick quiz. Did the various German jager units (Austrians too) have a bayonet? If not should we use the new No Bayonet ability for them?

Frankly I have never liked the 1/3 strength in melee of No Bayonet units in the EAW series. We have the rule but I guess the way I look at it is that if the players want to use then copy the PDT file and merely put a "-" sign after the fire value. Here is what the "R" fire type would look like in the PDT file:

R- 1 4 2 3 3 1 -1

I dont plan on using this for the next Wagram update. If Rich H. thinks we should then I will defer to him on the issue. I just have never liked the drastic reduction in their value in melee.

By the way: I have added in the indirect fire ability for the howitzer BATTERIES for Wagram. I will do this for EC and JC when their next updates come out. If you want to make up your own PDT file that allows a particular fire type to use indirect fire then here is the sample line:

H+ 1 10 2 8 5 6 7 3 11 2 15 1 -1

That is the line you will see in the soon to be released Wagram update. The "+" sign indicates indirect fire capability. In the Unit Info area you will see a notation of:

(I)

This means that the unit can fire indirect. You use the ALT key while firing the unit to get it to fire indirect. You wont have a choice of the unit that gets hit. And there is a chance it can scatter up to 2 hexes in any direction from the intended target hex. For those of you that have played the EAW series you will be familiar with this new rule.

Of course, they did. And used it pretty well.[^]
Just couple of examples:
07.IX.1812, Russia, Borodino, the Bagration's fleches area: 700 men - the remains of four Wurttemberg Jager and Light Infantry Btns in a square fought off with their long sword-like bayonets three charges of a Russian Cuirassier division;[B)][:(!]
14.II.1814, France, Voshampe: two Prussian companies of the Silesian Jaegers in the open (!) order met with well-directed volleys a charge of the French Old Guard Lanciers, and stoped them; then the Prussians attacked the French cavalry with bayonets, and forced them to give away.[:p][:D]

Those are games that Rich updates. Not in my balliwack. I am thinking that we should get all of the games updated by June but that is Rich's call. I always like to see ALL of the games (EC and Jena need it too) up to the same engine.
