I am in for sure. Hoping to run into Jeff AND Colin and no lousy Wavre scenario this time Jeff. This time open country and Russian 12lb guns grinding your infantry into small pieces.

Everyone should have received an email announcing the tournament. For anyone that I may have overlooked, please see the following website for the tournament announcement:

http://scott-ludwig.com/NWC/Club_Tournaments/Struggle%20of%20Nations%20Tournament.htm

Please send an email to mark(dot)jones(at)neel-schaffer(dot)com to confirm that you would like to participate. John, Bill and Vladimir, I have put you down for a Yes. Jeff and Mike, I think you are a Yes as well, but I need to be sure.

I have already received a lot of responses on the first day. This is already shaping up to be a big one.

Sorry Mark
Missed this one until now. I'd be keen to play if the list has not been closed.

I have included you in the tournament, Neville. I am actually taking names until November 25th. Most officers are responding to my email address, but I do regularly check the forum as well as is my habit.

Done, Walt! Very glad you can participate.

OK, guys, this is shaping up to be a big tournament. Even with the cancellations, we have 49 officers to date. At present, the Coalition officers outnumber the French by 29:20, so we need some more brave, Frenchmen to step forward into the line of battle. I had thought this would be a four round tournament of 32 players. If we can get 64 players, it will work out perfectly as a five round tournament.

How large is the first round scenario likely to be?

The first round scenario will be a single player meeting engagement with a Corps (approx. 20-25K men) on each side of the field. It will be 40-50 turns in length, but the first part will involve maneuvering for position which should go rather quickly. This gives the opponents a better chance to select their ground and setup their battle plan the way they want it to progress. You will have 60 days to complete the game. Effectively, I would expect that very few players will execute more than 30 turns before the battle is decided.

This will be a very balanced test of all aspects of the game including scouting, maneuver, deployment, ebb and flow adjustments, and close in tactical combat. The better player will definitely determine the outcome, which is exactly what we want.

Mark, please, to ajar a "curtain"
Will it be a custom scenario, or a variant of some existed one :?:
Thank you.

The first scenario is existing. This allows time for the designers to produce custom scenarios for the remainder of the tournament. Also for us to assess the custom designs and make certain that they are balanced.

The first scenario could well have been custom also, but this tournament was not something I had planned far in advance. It was a reaction to the memberships request to have one. The first scenario is very balanced as well though.
