Oh, no mein Herr, do not misunderstand me. I, among all officers, greatly enjoy the bright colors of the French uniforms.

It makes for better targets.

Brigadier, sir -
At least the uniform itself is green, the better for concealment. As for the plume adorning the hat, I do not really imagine it will blow one's cover so to speak. Rather, at the most, to one not used to such adornment, would be difficulty in ducking beneath branches and what not. However, upon surveying the wide array of such plummage in all the armies of the period, likely such careful maneuvering was well practiced. Why, Lt. Gen. Duhesme himself a noted writer of legere tactics probably included a chapter (or verse) on the subject in his famed treatsies.
Regards,

Der Wurger wished for me to inform you that he has instructed his fine Jagers that, upon spotting the yellow plume, they should dutifully aim about two feet below.

At mention of the shrike Josephine gets up from her curled position and begins to walk about the Tirailleur's table, her fur brushing up against the legs of men and table both, all the while, casting sharp glances towards the Hanoverian officers on the other side of the room, and the bird sitting upon the shoulder of the good Brigadier.
The legere officer pulls out his notebook (an item he recently has come to carry about all the time, not just on campaign, due to the influence of the scribe who sits near to hand himself, busily writing in his own voluminous journal), and makes a note: tell the plummage-maker to increase height of plume by two feet.

that although I considered one squadron a match for two French,
I didn't like to see four British opposed to four French:
and as the numbers increased and order, of course,
became more necessary I was the more unwilling to risk
our men without having a superiority in numbers."

The picture in actually a photograph of a re-enactor that is active today. If the uniform is incorrect, it is rather subtle. Even the historical renderings of the time are inconsistent, some showing a plume on the helmet, others not. I have seen subtle variations in the epilates as well. Also the plating on the helmet was probably gold rather than silver. The graphic I used was selected for the detail in color gained by a modern photograph and to portray the active attack of the charge. I could have picked some really sketchy looking historical drawing with the officer sitting calmly on his horse waiting for his tea to be delivered, but that would have not conveyed the same effect. I deemed the action of the charge and the resolution of the photo to be more important than whether or not his uniform was missing the third button on the left. I like the details, but I don’t let them prevent me from achieving the larger and more powerful presentation.

And there are still guys in this club that will say, "But he is missing the third button on the left!"

In the end, we all just have to learn to live together. I see the 'Big Picture', and will never let minor details prevent me from achieving the overall goal.

Brigadier, sir!
This Tirailleur upon first seeing the charging cavalry man in aforementioned photograph, had his breath taken away as he dove for cover, fear gripping his body. Good gods, man! Is that what a Voltigeur felt like seeing such a sight thundering down upon him?!?!
Regards,

Steady, my fine French friend. The trick is to master your nerve and steady your aim. One shot; one kill. This is the way of the Jager and the Tirailluer. :P :P :P

Now if the charging cavalry just happen to belong to the King's Dragoon Guards, there is virtually no hope at all. In that particular case, flinging you weapon away in panic and diving for any cover you can find in the forlorn hope that you will somehow manage to survive the encounter is the only prudent choice!

Of course, I could be biased. I suppose anything is possible after all.
