As administrator of the Napoleonic Archives (it's my site) I can assure that the Battleground Series work just magnificently in Windows 7. I've heard Windows 8 though has problems, though don't know that first hand.
Battleground Add-on "Marengo" I've played several times many years ago from both the French and the Austrian side. For the French you must implement a strictly economical Fighting Withdrawal while waiting for the arrival of Nappy in the afternoon with additional troops. As the Austrian, you must attack early and hard but keep several key units behind the line in preparation for the later arrival of Nappy. As Austrian, quickly move your light cavalry as far across the bridge on first turn as possible creating a screen to hide the sequence and order of battle of the rest of your troops. For the French, it is VERY important to race up and occupy the orchard/forest hexes to the left side (south & west?) of the bridge area. This causes the Austrian a lot of mischief and threatens the flank, and get a few infantry battalions up into the narrow ismus just in front of the bridge -- this can cause a lot of delay to the Austrian when crossing the bridges. As French, use the rivers (several if I recall) that run parallel to your natural line of defense a bit further back than the bridges.
Who ever designed the game (Italian guys I think) did a very accurate realistic job with the morale and unit images. That is unlike some of the other older NiR work where the weakest French unit in an OOB is "5" morale and "6" and "7" are most common. Compare those older NiR add-ons (not including Marengo) to HPS games of similar eras and you'll see the morales much different.
Also the Matrix CD works just great.
Anyway, enough said! Marengo is a good game in NiR addon in Battleground (Matrix) game system. I recommend it.
