1815 hours; the Duke of Brunswick attacks the French from the south, the first blood was drawn near Sart-a-Reves, French Chasseurs and Hussars were the first to tease the raff of the Duke. Little more then 250 French Light Cheval blocked the way forward. The Duke turned his legions north and not east on the rear of the French armee. Meanwhile the Allied Cav pushed closer to the southern part of Nivelles where the French Command headquarters could be located. ImageImageImageImageImage

To the right of the Allied line in this sector, the BlackWatch 42nd Highlanders suffered greatly from the French cannons losing seventy five percent of their numbers. Also the Gordon’s lost as many to fire from the French Guard cannons. Those two regts held the Allied line northwest of the town of Nivelles. Lt. Col d’ Arenberg held these Highlanders to a high standard and they held their ground while many were cut apart by cannon fire.
Dutch and Belgian Militia, where pressing in on the French Guard Chasseur’s de pipe under General de Brig Cambronne.

The 8th Belgian Hussars charged the lone skimmers of General Brig Guye middle Guard loosening many of their numbers in the charge in that sector. The 3rd KGL moved on the main road into Nivelles, stopping to engage the French Guard units blocking that road. The French were the Middle Guard Tirailleur’s. Moving on down the battle line in the northern part of Nivelles, a large number of mixed French Cheval attacked up the road that the Prussian were pushing down from. Sending many of the Prussian runnings backwards to their starting point, Allied units were surrounded in that charge. The 71st Highlanders and the 52nd Oxford were left on their own surrounded on all sides. Prussian ObersLt Thile, with great peril to himself and his unit broke though the steel ring of the French Cheval and open a hole that the Allies might escape only to be trap himself facing the French cannons.ImageImageImage

1830 hours Lt. Col Benort Hanoverians have pushed aside the few French Skimmers and are firing on the French Cav in that sector. The imperial Guard Chasseurs de Cheval are taking on lost by the Hanoverians fire. 553 trapped Hanoverians where free from the French by their fellow Hanoverians in that sector. Col Cameron’s Highlanders regrouped and charged the French once more in that sector with the help of the Gordon’s and put fire down on the French Guardsman in the western part of Nivelles. Along with the aid of the West Riding’s and the Buckingham Regts they managed to move a few French Guard skimmers back.

Lt. Col Doherty 7th Cav Brig or what was left of them made a move on the French Imperial Guard Lancers. Aided by 500 Prussians they were trying to block the French Lancers from taking avenge in their attack on the Allied line. The French Light Cav how ever moved up on the allied line north of Nivelles. Once more surrounding the Prussians in that sector, Allied Major Ross was unable to come to their rescue do to the like of men.
Prussian Major Beckendorff was able to stop the Polish lancers from a brake though. The 52nd Oxford where able to form a firing line to halt the French advance north of Nivelles. The French with large numbers of Infantry and Cav from their reserves are able to push back the Prussian advance north of Nivelles.

ImageNortheast of Forteny, the French heavy Cav pushes though the thin black line of Prussians. The French Cuirassiers surrounds the Prussian units of Majors Fischer and Mirbach. The French Heavy Cav was only stopped by thirty well place Prussian cannons. 1400 heavy and light French Cav pushes forward followed by 3500 Infantry and 20 cannons. It’s up too Prussian General Major Brause to stop the French in that sector.

The Duke of Brunswick opened up another front in the French rear moving on Thines and Nivelles from the south. The French attacked his right flank with 2800 Infantry and 600 Light Cav while holding his front with 1800 Infantry. Allied Col Amold of the 3rd Netherlands Brig holds command on the right and Major General Kruse of the Nassau holds command of the center and left. Image
