Does anyone own the Great Battles serie ? I bought them some time ago and would like to try them over the internet but it is very difficult to find opponents for these games.
I tried the Wargamer site http://www.wargamer.com/greatbattles/ but to no avail.

I do have this serie, but I don't think that the German version is compatible to the UK/US-Version.

Did you try the forum at http://www.wargamer.com/cgi-bin/ultimat ... forum&f=13

This brings back memories of playtesting these 3 games, which was a blast, though the designers could be a stubborn lot.

David O'Connor and I have talked about playing them too, they're still good games. My 1776 Foot Guards might be tough, but you don't want to run into my host of Persian Immortals!

Thanks Phil. I posted a message in this forum. I knew that there must be wargamers
out there who own these games but it is something difficult to find each other. Perhaps we can arrange a little tournament soon if there are enough players.

I have the series as well (including the editor). I actually purchased the special edition this year because it was so cheap.

Funny enough I just took it off the hard drive last night. Can you play PBEM with it?

Nik, I think you can only play it over the internet.

I own the Great Battles Collector's Edition.
There are many custom scenarios available from the Wargamer website some with fascinating historical data.I particularlly
enjoyed playing against the AI the Roman verus Brits/German scenarios. It's a shame the developers resisted the idea of adding a play by PBEM feature to an otherwise wonderful game.

I've also got the Great Battles Series, but have never played over the Internet - perhaps one Saturday afternoon in the near future when my wife's out shopping? The games were well designed, apart from the lack of PBEM option and the engine's inability to adequately cater for fire-power based armies such as Parthians.

There is a new PBEM-Play by E-Mail program
developed by Harri Pesonen which can be adapted to support other programs.I downloaded it from Matrix Games for the Pacific War Game.Just a thought could this be used to play the 'Great Battles'
games by PBEM?The developer requires some
computer type information and I don't have the neccesssary competence to find the information required.

Peter, do you have a URL for this website ? It would be nice to play this game by email. Perhaps it is even possible to use the Battle ground engine to design these classic battles, but unfortunately I am not skilled enough to do that.

If anyone sees this around (online), I am interested in getting it. I tried a few months ago, but the collectors edition had sold out.

Thanks in advance,

Mike
