I stand corrected. I have another source (<u>The British Army in North America</u> by May and Embleton (Osprey) listing the 16th (Queen's) Light Dragoons and the 17th Light Dragoons being the only British Cavalry to serve during the revolution.

A further tidbit: On the 17th: "Equipment recorded as shipped for American service included 4 rifled carbines per troop. .. The normal armament of the trooper was the heavy straight sword and a pair of pistols."

On the 16th: "A light infantry or dismounted troop was added to the regiment for service in America. They wore leather helmets .. and carried cloaks and hatchets. Broadswords were not carried." [I assume that last line refers to dismounted troops and not the mounted.]

The Tory legions are not covered in the book.

Forced X order and a weapon "P" (range 1, but no melee penalty or a bonus to reflect the hatchet/sword) like you have in the Zulu sceanrio) would seem to me to be a valuable change in the system.

It might also be more accurate to reduce troop size to account for various detachments, both on and off the map.

Just more thoughts....

Mike,

No we are not.

You state the 16th and 17th were not Lt. Dragoons, you are incorrect.

According to the Website listing the REGIMENTS and CORPS of the BRITISH ARMY 1760
they were:
16th Regiment of (Light) Dragoons, or Burgoyne's Light Horse
17th Regiment of (Light) Dragoons .

This makes them light cavalry and not dragoons, so their training and battlefield roles are different than what you are thinking.

The US only raised Lt. Dragoons.

So the cavalry in our game system should not carry bayonets, should not be able to operate a fromed, trained infantry when dismounted. Skirmish (extended) formation is more appropriate.
