Gentlemen,

Playing 1812 (what else?) and turned on the music again for some "flavor" but became annoyed as "Captain MacIntosh" goes into a loop and then freezes the game. The .wav file seems to be read only from the cd. Suggestions?

Please provide some more details, such as Operating system, sound card, Direct X version.

Also, what was going on in the scenario: vs the AI, AI movement or combat? Any other programs running in the background?

Steve, I have the same /similar problem intermittently with both F&I and 1776, but the sound effects loop also and my games don't crash. I suspect it will happen with 1812 as well. I've got to keep my ears open to see if it happens with the CW and Nappy series, probably will. XP (or it's sound drivers) seems to be the culprit in my case. I never had this happen on my Win98 machine.

I'm running 98, Vortex soundblaster, and DirectX 8; I'm running nothing in the background.

The looping only occurs when "Captain MacIntosh" plays and occurs on any turn that selection begins to play, doesn't seem to be contingent on any particular game situation.

Does the WAV file play ok by itself? Try playing it off the CDROM or copy the WAV files to your HD and play it.

If it plays ok, then, I am not sure what could be wrong, as you have a fairly generic system.

I guess the only other factor might be your RAM.

Tried to play the .wav file "Captain MacIntosh" directly from the disc, and at 2:31 of play it stops, hangs, tries to play, then stops again and freezes.

I run 98, Vortex soundblaster, DirectX 8, and 128 RAM.

I have this problem quite a lot often when I start Ozark or Corinth with the music or with the sound effects on panzer campaign games and Napoleonic battles. I run XP and I have a sound blaster clone
on a AMD 1800.

If is doesn't play directly off the CDROM and other songs will play from the CDROM, then it is possible to have a defective or scratched CDROM, but this is beyond my expertise.

Except, copy a few WAV songs, including "Capt. MacIntosh' to your HD and see how they do.

Thanks for your help and advice. I have had no problems with other songs, just "Captain MacIntosh", and there appear to be no flaws on the cdrom. If I copy the music files to my HD except "Captain MacIntosh" do you suppose the program would run through as normal and ignore the captain?

I don't know how the program looks for the song. It would seem that scenarios look for specific songs, but it would be worth a try.

Another option COULD be to copy the entire CDROM as an image file on your HD; get a good version of Capt Mc and burn a new cdrom.
