Reposing full confidence in your loyalty, courage and good conduct, I do hereby constitute and appoint you, during pleasure, to be <b><font color="yellow">Major</font id="yellow"></b> of the 1st Company, 1st Regiment of Foot Guards, taking rank and precedence from the present day. You are, therefore, carefully and diligently to discharge the duty of major by exercising and well disciplining the inferior officers and men of the said company, and I do hereby command them to obey you as their major, and you are to observe and follow all such orders and directions as you shall from time to time receive from me or your superior officers, according to law.

Good show Major! A jolly fine example of a Guardsman you are. And by the by Sir, did you receive that parcel of caviar and cognac that I "appropriated" for you on your entry to the Regiment? Gracious no Sir, you do not owe me anything! Though you might draw up a brief thank you note to the colonial taxpayer...chortle chortle. [:I]

My thanks to to you all, and cheers to the British army commanders for their efficiency and generosity,
and the Americans for providing such a jolly fine war to further me carrier bless their little harts and even to our real enemy the Frogs (a most convenient and reliable one at that). A round of rounds for all of you ! ( drinks of course [:D])

See you on the battlefield some day. Then I shaal show you that guards bleed as good as ordinary brits.
