So please enlighten this ignorant <font color="orange">Native </font id="orange">as the true contents of this Spotted Dick.

C'mon, we have all these King's men getting nobility honors, but none can give us a good account of a <b>Spotted Dick</b>? [:I]

Looks like all the Brits are posing as such, but none can tell us what it is! Hmmm, maybe they are Hessians thinking they can fool the King, but a true Brit could give us a true account...

That's what you asked for, and that's what you got. I have no idea how it tastes.

Sickly spongy pudding ( like Steamed pudding)....Not really in vogue now I don't think? (thank god!)

Basically it is what we call here in the states "Fruit Cake", except to be properly made it should be steamed in a piece of linen. Add molasses and figs, and you have figgy pudding, which is so rich it makes me gag to think about. I have tasted both and all I can say is it was probably a great treat when sweets were not common, but we are all the better without it.

Try one of the recipes popular during the Elizabethian era, spiced wines. They added spices to wine until they smelled like after shave. Of course if you drank alot the night before, I suppose the spiciness would exude out of your pores.

Okay, I am satisfied now. Looks like a dud pudding.

Lord Walter, don't be so literal. I did like the recipe, but was looking to see if we have any British who could give 1st hand accounts of eating the stuff.

Couldn't be any worse than PEMMICAN![8D]

Basically a sponge pudding "spotted" with raisins or sultanas. Usually eaten with a topping of custard or syrup. You can still find this dish in Britain in many cafes (particularly "transport cafes" - for long distance lorry drivers), though not generally in restaurants.
Its very stodgy, quite tasty in actual fact, but VERY filling. Leaves you with something of a bloated feeling if you eat more than a small portion. When I was at school it was a popular pudding for school meals. Typical "Old" British type food - cheap, hot, filling and totally bad for you if you over indulge. But then so is sex......... [:D]

Also has been known to refer to the 6 time Tour de France King of the Mountains, Richard Virenque <font size="1">(sic?)</font id="size1">. KotM is a polka dot jersey.
