Hmm, I wonder how all of the Continental officers keep getting promoted. It's not like any of them have beaten me in a while.

Still, Bon Chance to our good American friends and allies. [;)]

Congratulations Sergeant! The drinks are on Bartholemew. [:D]

T'was indeed a hard day for all at Bunker Hill. [:(][V] A surprise assault on Charlestown saw the quick opening of several English pubs and other establishments of comfort due all officers of the Crown. [8D] And then that bloody uphill advance. [xx(] Time again I had to order the lads to just let the fallen lie and step lively over them toward the awaiting hedge of muskets atop Breed's Hill. Terrible volleys issued down from the embankments, answered in kind by a wall of Brown Besses, bayonets attached. The Royal Artillery lobbed dozens of shot into the heart of the rebel position, causing some disorientation, but not nearly enough, as the minutemen cooly and efficiently replaced line casualties.

And then our work began in earnest. Through a storm of smoke and ball advanced the Royal Marines and Grenadiers, right up to the rebels' earthworks they came. Amid staggering casualties the laddies drove home their attack with bayonet and blade. The rebels did not falter for many minutes, minutes in which scores of men fell where they stood. Only under extreme pressure, and with a little luck, did Breed's Hill come into British possesion, and a Union Jack was raised at 10 minutes till noon. Locked in mortal combat there, (and during my noon tea!) [:(!] action swung back to the city of Charlestown, where American regulars were intent on closing those newly occupied British pubs and jolly well spoiling our fun. [V] And that they did. As the Colonial regulars swept the town clear of British up onto the foot of Breed's Hill, the day came to a greatfully welcomed close. The men still alive on this field could now muster neither charge nor volley, with the rebels holding Bunker Hill and the British staring back from Breed's Hill. A ghastly view all 'round.

If I may quote the astute Pyrrhus of Epirus, "One more such victory and we are undone."

Well played Sergeant Berli! [}:)] I have fond memories of my old worn Sergeant stripes. And to think, they only cost Father a mere pittance. [:p]
