I've had the problem ever since I loaded 1812. Not sure why 1776 was affected, but it happens with all three games now. Sometimes with a melee it gets into a loop as well, so the melees and music are all looping at once. One thing though. When I loaded 1812, I did not care much for the canned music, so did not install it. When the disk accesses the music or sound effects, the game stops and sometimes does not start again. 1776 loops, but never stops. This one is fully installed, so it does not have to access the disk once the game starts. I have a lot of memory, and a Pentium 4, it's a year old.

All joking behind: for Nappy games try <b>"World's Greatest Overtures" CD by Intersound Records </b>(available at Amazon.com for $11 <i>--not really an ad I just found it there! </i>)

it has:

1812 Overture
William Tell
Light Cavalry
Fingal's Cave
and many others good for setting the proper mood.

Yeah, I do that too ... problem is I have to switch from 18th century British marching tunes to Civil War songs in between, and I haven't yet found a good CD for Nappy games--any recommendation? [8D]

Has anyone asked Rich about this? He might have some insight or be able to let John Tiller know of a problem.

In past problems, that seem widespread, if ONE person collects data from all the others with the problem and puts together a spreadsheet or just a list of each person with the problem and some (If not all) of the following:

Computer type
MHz
CPU
RAM
Sound Card
Sound Card RAM
Games affected
Doing what when happens, i.e., firing, movement, etc.

This should be done to include the other clubs, I see problems in the ACW and the NWC and probably in the Modern and Panzer Clubs, also.

I've talked with Dierk before on this a couple of times, and in most cases loading the new sound card drivers resolves the issue or adjusting their sound acceleration as Phil mentioned.

I have the solution for Nappy: Tschaikowsky. At least for Russian battles, it's incredibly immersive. [8D]
