In SB:V, the losses are calculated per stack, not per individual unit. Three small units would take the same loss as one big one. Only the number of guys in the hex counts.
Besides, I would of course ask for a density modifier at the same time (as it is there in the SB series).

Dierk,
My apologies then. I'm just used to the current line and column pass through fire in the Nappy system, where that is a legit problem.

Three units would take three times the losses? I didn't know that.

Dierk,
If you have Eckmuhl or NRC watch it some time... a full attack is calculated for every eligible unit in the hex (for either line pass through, or the optional column pass through). Now, don't get me wrong, I like column pass through, and pretty much insist on using it, but it does have that effect. I've seen stacks of 3 columns take 80-100 casualities per column, for 300 total. Just brutal. Now, I don't mind it when say, you have a stack of columns nearing 2000 men trying to melee a battery from the front.. that's their problem if they want to do that, but it's a real problem when your units get worn down so you have to stack to get acceptable melee defense in one hex, but then medium-long range arty fire causes more losses than it would if it were one full strength unit.
