What do you think of those books? Are they a good read?

Absolutely! They are very good books. Anytime I consider a new time period I look to see if Osprey has a title on it.

They give good overviews, and just enough detail and color to hook me into a topic, or discovering that I'm not interested in that particular war.

Excellent starting points and strong reference books no matter how scholarly you are on a topic, IMO.

And one thing's sure, you'll know precisely how the buttons on the uniform of the last quartermaster clerk looked like.

I am a complete Osprey junkie. Every one I have bought has at least one nugget of info that keeps you coming back for more.

On the other hand, there is always something you would have thought would be included, but is not.

The Order of Battle Series are excellent (there are a couple on the F&I war). Campaign Series also good.

I'll chime in too, agreeing that they are good books. I have about a dozen of them.

A very good starting point for any period, the only problem is that they start to take over your book shelf space.

Great books especially the Campaign and Warrior series. They cover almost all the battles from ancient Egypt to WWII. These books include lots of maps which is an absolute must for covering battles. The colorfull pictures really make events come alive.

I just bought two of them : Tobruk and Eggmuhl. Nice maps and drawings, and a good overview.
But there are 500 of them!

Likewise I own them as well. I must say that the Eggmuhl book really helped to some extent with the order of battle for the Eckmuhl Campaign game I worked on.
The Marengo book was a topic of contreversy for some. The author, Dave Hollins, is a really nice guy and some roaster-critic really toasted the book on his website. That Dave didnt lose his cool over the episode shows that although the guy making the critique may have a valid point perhaps it is not worth getting personal or overly critical over a matter of history. I for one thought that the Marengo book was fine!
I own the books on the Queen Victoria Little Wars era and the Khartoum book in particular was a fine read!
