The CCC cabinet has determined that we should expand the Armies supported by the club. The reasons are to add increased game play between members and to make the club closer to the historical components of the American Colonial period. The two "new" armies are the current French Department of the Colonial Army and all the various Native American units into an Indian Alliance.

The French Army is an easy to understand change as the French played various roles in the Colonial period from enemy during the early Colonial period to friend in the later Colonial period to having no role in the 1812 era. The Native Americans played varied roles during the period with various entities supporting the French, others supporting the British/Colonials and others supporting both. So they have a unique position in history and in the club. Essentially, there will be some ahistorical match ups with these new armies in the club. In essence, a member of any army may BATTLE versus any other army in the club using any of the supported games.

Of course this looks very strange when we could have the French battle an Indian army in the 1812 game! When you look at the present situation only the British and the Colonial can battle, as we are all, currently, in one Army or the other. The addition of the new armies means that each of us has 3 different army opponents to choose from. This change increases the number of battles each member can play in and will probably make maneuvers (games between same army members) much less prevalent.

We will have a short transition period, until about April 1, 2003, where individuals may CHANGE their Army affiliation and still retain all their points, ranks and medals. Current games will continue to be scored according to present affiliations, but new games started after April 1, 2003 will all be under the new army rules.

The new CIC on the French Army will be Bill Peters, current French Commander, and Rich Hamilton will be the CIC of the Indian alliance. This expands the CCC cabinet to 7 members.

The name "Indian Alliance" is a working name and perhaps someone will come up with another name that will work better.

We hope this change will be reasonably painless for everyone, including all the Admin work Garry Cope needs to do to make the statistics work.

Any member that wishes to change armies, please contact your CURRENT CIC, eitherErnie Sands for the British Army;David O'Connor for the Colonial Army;Rich Hamilton for the Indian Alliance and Bill Peters for the French Army.

The Colonial Campaigns Club will be somewhat unique in the game club circuit, with the non-historical matchups adding a flavor to the club and giving everyone more opportunities to BATTLE. Dierk Walter has made NEW ribbons for the added armies and they will be on display, soon (Thanks Dierk!)

That sounds good.

Since we're going along National lines, how about a Hessian or Mercenary Army?

Suggestions for the Indian Army ... "Iroquois Confederation", or "Native America Territorial Organization" (NATO for short) [;)],
or "Custer Busters", or "Fair Weather Friends" (since they switched alliances to the winning side quite often [;)], or "Belligerent Indian Nations Go On" (BINGO), or "Chasing Anglos Swiftly, Silently Indian Nations Organization" (CASSINO), or "Who You Calling Redman, Sunburnt White Boy?" (WYCRSWB), or "Native Asian Emigrants" (NEA), or ...

Sir,

With all due respect, why would anyone want to take up arms for a nation that speaks a "romance" language or for a bucnh of barbaric savages when they can loyally fight for the king (as long as he pays well)?

A questions about this to help me get this straight in my mind, Are you saying then that a person in the French Army could play against a player in the American Army even though they were allies in the war? Who would play which side?

"Who would play which side?" - Bill

I would suppose if the scenario had the army you belonged to then you would play that side. If the scenario didn't have the either army the players were from then they could pick which side they wanted to be on.

An interesting situation would be French player vs. American Player in a Yorktown scenario.[:)]

Also, if a future game was done on the French & Indian War, and a British player wanted to play against an American player, what then?

Perhaps a solution would be that any player could play any side and it would be a 'battle game' as long as the players belonged to different armies.

That's definitely the solution...just too confusing any other way.

I know different clubs do this in different ways when there are more than one nation represented. In the Frontline club, if you are a member of an Axis nation you would play the Axis side of the game regardless of what nation they were and vice versa for the Allies. In the Blitz club (I belong to the ACW and SPWaW ladders)they run a ladder system and you and your opponent don't belong to anyarmy or nation. You just decide when you decide to play a game who will play who. In this situation, I prefer the frontline way of doing things (Axis plays Axis, Alllies play Allies). Would that be possible here?
