Ok - we have threads on some boards about the war and new games (yes!) and other things - I thought it would be nice to rouse you guys to remember some of your favorite games in the club you have played. Name the opponent and the game/scenario you played and please toss in some actions that you remember from the game.
Here goes:
Ernie Sands, 1812:Invasion of Canada, Lundy's Lane Historical
Ernie had been a real sport and we have played some games which were biased against his side hence some losses he sustained against me - I count him as the biggest sport in the club by the way - when we locked horns in 1812: Lundy's Lane.
First, we kept changing the title of the email message to something that better represented the game. For instance rather than it being called Lundy's Lane I renamed it Lundy's Dry Cleaners after one particularly bad turn where Ernie wiped out some American units. We had fun with the title for about 20 messages.
Next, Ernie just wouldnt play fair and lay down - he fought like a tiger! After an initial loss of guns on his part (he wont do that again I bet!) his units were able to retake the fort at the end of the game and I couldnt get it back.
Second, this game had my favorite two relatives present - Uncle Ebb and Aunt Flow (sound of cymbals in the background). We were back and forth on the victory scale til I thought I was playing the British side for a bit! VP locations were won and lost in quick succession.
In the best attack and defense of the day Ernie's guys held off til the last three turns to attack the fort. Then he launched a withering assault. We were playing with Rout Limiting OFF so my men went Willy-Nilly off to Disneyland (not an amusing turn believe me). I tried to retake the Hot Dog stand (as I thought of it) but he kept me back and won the day.
I remember the very first 1776 Tournament we had. My opponent was Carl from Denmark (forgot his last name - getting old). We had a real fight and it wasnt until the very last turns that things got better for my side. A very enjoyable game indeed!
I have had many more but the above two were the most memorable.
I try and forget my recent New Orleans Massacre with Sir Natty. Hoping that he will too!! (Bart charged with the Grenadiers at a key location and took home the dog bone trophy)
