To <font color="yellow"><b>Jack Hipkins</b></font id="yellow">, Sergeant in the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot

Reposing full confidence in your loyalty, courage and good conduct, I do hereby constitute and appoint you, during pleasure, to be <b><font color="yellow">Ensign</font id="yellow"></b> in the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot, taking rank and precedence from the present day. You are, therefore, carefully and diligently to discharge the duty of ensign by exercising and well disciplining the men of the said regiment, and I do hereby command them to obey you as their ensign, and you are to observe and follow all such orders and directions as you shall from time to time receive from me or your superior officers, according to law.

Congratulations sir. Well deserved promotion I am sure. If your fight on the battlefield is anything like your banter in the tavern, you must be giving the enemy fits.

Congratulations Sir! The British army looks set to permanantly occupy Quebec and the colonies at any moment with units like the 42nd at it's head. Onward to glory Sir! [:)]

It is wi' a most austere Coutenance, and Stalwart spirit, full o' gratitude to His Majesty for the Trust he places in me, that I Accept this Comission, and do most Humbly Swear to Faithfully execute the Duties and Responsibilities of said Comission, to the best o' my abilities, e'en unto my Life. Now then, awa' wi' they wee boys and staund up, Gintlemen, belts to the bar and tumblers at the present!
