Colonial Campaigns Club (CCC)

Blatantly ripping off Lord Wellington, this battle was nearly my Waterloo. [8] Emerging victorious but bruised and battered by a young Colonial Sergeant, Philip Prete of the 3rd Pennsylvania Regiment. The battlefield was Crown Point(c) and a smashing good brawl it was. [B)] The turns in this match were long and physically and mentally exhausting, (ever have those sort of great turns?) and it took every ounce of experience I could muster to secure a win, along with an asprin or two. [xx(]

Feeling somewhat Frederickian we formed up two long lines, bayonets at the ready, war clubs poised, artillery unlimbered and loaded. My task was to take and hold the French fort at Crown Point, a task in which I failed miserably, as Sgt. Prete kept His Majesty's forces at bay the entire match. Only fine British discipline among the leaders and rank and file saved the day as both lines stepped lively to within 1000 paces, 500, then 125 paces, and then settled in eyeball to eyeball before unleashing horribly effective and deadly volleys into each others ranks. It was not unusual for both sides to see 15+ men drop per volley, along with an occasional artillery unit for good measure. The Frenchmen under Sgt. Prete's command availed themselves most honorably, as did his noble Indian allies, as my poor exhausted lads fought to maintain their composure in line. Yea, t'was a bloody bloody day indeed for all!

15,476 men of all ranks and armies lay behind on the field.
93 artillery pieces were rendered out of action and spiked.
60 leaders were killed, captured, or wounded.

I tip my tricorn to Sgt. Prete, and to whoever his training master was. [8D] Be wary of this lad my British and Hessian compatriots, he's a mean Colonial tiger in the field. [}:)]

Sir Phil,

You can have avoided all of your causualties at the outset of the battle and saved many a tear of some poor widow in London or Manchester if only would would have accepted my surrender terms and Crepes. Just to let you know the Crepes where filled with wild berry currant and sweet whipped cream, your preasence was surly missed and the dessert bar. My hat is off to you for a well fought battle and a well deserver victory! Hurahh! Hurahh![;)]

Sounds epic! It is always good, win or lose to have a battle be a battle.
