I think we have all seen how the tiny forts we find in many F&I and some 1776 and 1812 scenarios fall to mass routs of the defenders each time. A while ago we had a thread that discussed this problem and came up with what I think would be a viable solution.
http://www.wargame.ch/board/ccc/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3094
Col. Gary McClellan of the Continental Army and I are planning to submit a petition to John Tiller to lobby for the following changes to remedy this shortcoming of the engine:
<font color="yellow"><b>1) Give a +2 morale modifier for units facing an embankment hexside with a down-elevation step (i.e., units manning a defensive position).
2) Disallow negative morale modifiers from enfilade fire passing over such a hexside except when coming from a higher elevation level. </b></font id="yellow">
The combination of both changes should significantly reduce the chance for mass routs of the defending troops in tiny forts, thus allowing those forts to work like they really should, being a protection for the troops manning them rather than a death trap. (For details why exactly this solution is favoured please refer to the thread mentioned above.)
What I need is as many people as possible who would "sign" such a petition (i.e. allow us to put their name and e-mail address on it). The chances that a change suggested by many is considered by John Tiller are obviously significantly higher.
(<font color="yellow"><b>Please let's reserve this thread for officers who are willing to sign the petition, not for discussing the change again</b></font id="yellow">; we have done that before in the other thread. If you don't agree to the solution proposed, simply don't sign. [8)]
And please, Al, don't again discourage everyone with "you can dream but nothing will happen". [:I])
So, who's with us? [:)]
