Colonial Campaigns Club (CCC)

Alright, I've decided to go ahead and do the 5 for 3 deal with HPS. I've already sealed that I'm getting FIW and 1812, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend 2 other HPS games that they've had a good time with. Be it Napoleon, ACW or a good Pazer Blitz, I'm up for all suggestions.

I don't currently have any Squad Battles, Panzer Campaigns, Modern Campaigns, or Naval Battles games, so keep that in mind as I make my recommendations. You might also want to wait a few weeks because I've heard that a new Napoleonic and a new ACW game are coming out together. With that said, I really like Campaign Ozark. It gives you three separate campaigns of medium to small size. Corinth is good to have because version 1.01 of that game is the only one that allows you to play the various add-ons out there for the ACW series. I also really enjoy Napoleon's Russian Campaign, but the number of troops is HUGE in some of the scenarios, especially the later battles. I also own Eckmuhl and Wagram, and like them both. If I were you, I'd also probably sample one of the Panzer Campaigns if you are into WW2 combat, and then pick either Wagram and Eckmuhl, or some combo of Corinth, Ozark, and NRC.

It all depends on your tastes and interest. Keep in mind the Naval Titles and Club are an on-line type of experience, other than that any of John's games are worth a good look see.[:D]

My recommendation would be Eckmuhl (Nappy) and Corinth (American Civil War), as these are close in time to the Colonial Campaign series and do not get into the modern era. These are also solid games and have a good following (as do all of the HPS games) in our sister clubs of the NWC and the ACW.

There are also clubs for the WWII, Modern (Korea, Vietnam and some hypothetical wars), and Naval Campaigns (as Al says, all online action and a lot of fun to play).

The WWII games of the Panzer Camapign (10 games) series are rock solid games and have a very long running period. Smolensk is probably the best first game, but that could be argued to death. The Squad Battles (4 titles) are smaller unit games.

The Modern Campaigns extend to 2 campaign games, Middle East (Arab/Israeli Wars) and Fulda Gap (what-if) along with the 2 Vietnam Squad Battle games.

I was slow to get into the squad battles series, but I am completely hooked now. If you like creating scenarios, Pacific War and AotR are both great. (ES is too.) (Your pick depending on your flavor - Jungle or East front.) Closest thing to Squad Leader since...well...Squad Leader.

As to Panzer/Modern Campaigns, my favorites are Fulda 85, Market Garden 44, and Tobruk 41

Out of the Nappy games, I have to say I gave got the most mileage out of Eckmuhl. (In addition to the great campaign it has, there are mods available out there for this engine only - 100 Days, Spain, etc).

Give you a tatse of three other series...I imagine you'll get hooked on the Nap & ACW titles pretty easily.

..and of course you can always get two of one title, give a gift and recruit a local opponent for yourself.

As someone who has picked up quite a few of these games recently (crossing several eras) I would recommend Market Garden '44 and Korea '85. These two are my favorites right now. The only caveat to that would be Korea '85 is better played among those you know as opposed to a formal environment bu thats a personal preference. The Panzer Campaigns Club is excellent and I am sure you'd enjoy yourself.

That's quite a good idea. I do wish I had a local friend who is into this kind of stuff.
