Colonial Campaigns Club (CCC)

Is it acceptable to exit units from non-exit map hexes? Is this something that players tend to do regularly, occasionally or never? Is it generally considered bad practice?

Personally, I don't particularly like to exit troops from a non-objective hex just to avoid losses, yet I also don't feel it's appropriate that troops can get wiped out in such a situation just because there's nowhere left for them to retreat. Of course a game map has to have edges, but realistically the terrain wouldn't exactly "end" there, so since they can't return to the map and don't count towards the victory level, perhaps it actually makes sense for troops to be able to exit the map from any hex, not just objective hexes?

However, maybe this is only really acceptable if they're not actually in contact with enemy troops when they exit the map?
