Losses of supply wagons are now listed in the Victory Dialog box for all the new Nappy HPS games. However they don't seem to be worth any points. Is that correct?

Also by experimentation. I capture a wagon of 300. My opponent then recaptures it. The victory box says enemy still lost 300 and I have lost 150. I don't understand the maths here. Enemy has regained some 75 supplies. So far then 450 supplies have been lost from a supply wagon of strength 300 and there are still 75 supplies left.

The patch will merely have added the *ability* to have supply losses count for VP. To actually assign a VP value to them would mean editing the scenarios--I don't know if this has been done. Moreover, since the scenario is loaded only once upon starting a new game, any such change would not affect ongoing games.

Losses, even if subsequently recovered, are permanent in the victory dialogue. You captured the wagon, gaining the VP for the entire strength (is it really 1 VP per SP? seems a lot to me). Capturing, however, made it lose 50% of its strength, so it's now 150. That is what your opponent captures, and what is scored. Again, the wagon loses 50% of its strength, so it's now 75. However, the strength math is 150 (lost in the first capture) + 75 (lost in the second capture) + 75 (remaining strength) = 300. So it all adds up, no?

Much more, patch applies the possibility to :
1/ ABATTIS and TRENCHES can be inserted in some hexes with the scenario editor
2/ SUPPLY SOURCES hexes also

we are waiting for the ability for some cavalry units to mount/dismount

The details on how to use the Abbatis and Trenches will have to wait til the next patch from what Rich told me. I didnt even know that anyone knew of the feature. Perhaps its something in the Help file that you saw Stephane but it was one of those things we were keeping under wraps. So much for the surprise! If you need any other info on Abbatis and Trenches contact Rich at the support email address.

Dismounting and mounting of cavalry is better accomplished by having them either dismounted or mounted in the OB. I plan on putting in dismounted dragoons for each dragoon regiment in the OB sooner or later but doing it during a game is not as essential. I could see where it might be helpful during a LONG game though but I am not sure if its something that John Tiller will want implemented unless enough of you contacted him about it.

I would prefer differences for cavalry in column or line (the former for using roads mainly, the latter would have better combat values in melee).

I also would like to see skirmishers be able to go into a different formation to use a road. Not column but a general order of some sort.

I am also for road columns where units over a certain amount of men would have a second part of the unit extend into a rear hex. Berg's GMT Gettysburg game does this for infantry and cavalry and its a good thing.

Not sure if these will ever see the light of day but ...

The supply value can be changed in the new version of the editor for existing .scn files (not battle or campaign files). If you want to add in a value do a Save As of the .scn file and then add in some number.

I dont know if I personally will use this value but Rich may have a need for it for a future title. If someone wants to change one of the files for EC/WC/JC go ahead but remember to make a copy first.

Frankly it might make balancing scenarios harder in the mainstream but in those situations where capturing a supply train is vital I see it as a nice option.

I dont know exactly how the feature works for scoring. Try out a value in the editor and play it a bit to see how the VPs work. It will take some trial and error for Designers to get to know what value to use.

Thanks Bill. I can certainly see problems with trying to score supply wagons. Maybe it should be an optional rule like leader points when it is finally used. I've mixed feelings as to its use I have to say.

Bill, abattis and trenches can be setup in the scenario editor, and graphics for these features are in the "map" folder
Was that a surprise ?????

Just so I'm clear...

A) Optional as to whether or not ANY points are received, correct?

B) IF option is chosen, point value may be set by scenario, correct?

FWIW, I see assigning point values to them as pernicious at the end of the day.

Yes. I suggest an optional rule as to whether supply counts for victory points. As I say I have mixed feelings about it. And yes supply values could be set for each scenario. However a heck of a lot of work would need to be done to redo the victory values for every scenario in these games, assuming they are all currently well balanced by playtesting.

Fortunately it's not an issue at present.

Stephane - must have been something added to the editor after I previewed it.

This is nice. Imagine Hohenlohe entrenched at the Battle of Jena!

Sheesh, I may just put a "what-if" scenario together today with Davout entrenched at Auerstedt!

Or how about if we put Abattis around Wellington to keep him from roaming away from HQ? [;)]

I have put together a modified Twin Battles scenario for JA that uses Abbatis and Trenches. Davout starts dug in as well as Hohenlohe. Reinforcements arrive earlier for both sides. All units for the most part are released at the beginning of the battle.

Check out my thread for the Playtest Assist Program for the URL to the file. I need folks to try it out to let me know how it played. I will make any corrections based on the feedback and put in the next update. Your help in playing it would be appreciated. Sheesh, I will play it with anyone that wants to give it a go.
