Did not know that independent units had a parent unit. Here is all that the User.hlp file has to say about skirmishers and rally:

Skirmisher Rule
In addition to the normal test, Routed Skirmisher units of non-Light, non-Guard, non-Independentc units are only eligible to recover from Rout if they are within 5 hexes of their parent unit.

And here is the rule on Disorder:

Skirmisher Rule
In addition to the normal test, Disordered Skirmisher units of non-Light, non-Guard units are only eligible to recover from Disorder if they are within 5 hexes of their parent unit.

As you can see it all pertains to the Ligne detached skirmisher.

May have been something that John missed when he made the fix.

This particular sub-discussion has to do with the Jager-independent units such as the Prussians have at Ligny and in Jena.

Bill,

Yes I know what historical units we're talking about, but I bet the game engine only sees them as Skirmishers.

Oh yeah, agreed on that.

BUT at least they rally. The older engine never would let them do that much. Now if we can get them to disorder, dish up ice cream and make pizza!!! Man, what an engine we would have then! [:p]

I read on another site that the town of Charleroi had changed with the new patch. Charleroi appears to now be one third it's original size and has grown a wall! Any other significant map changes with the new patch?

No, just that...I was provided with some period maps for that area that I didn't have before, and hence made the changes accordingly.

Rich, I guessed you must have gained some more info to make the map change. The officer who wrote the post had a game in progress and after installing the patch had a unit in the Sambre river...

Are you sure that Charleroi hasn't been too drastically shrunk? Peter Hofschroer wrote:

quote:
Charleroi is situated on both sides of the Sambre river. In 1815 the lower town, on the right bank, was linked to the village of Marcinelle by a dike some 400m long, and bordered by hedges. This dike crossed undulating terrain and ended as a road running into a tree-planted square beside the Sambre bridge. The river was 30 m wide and the northern bank sloped up steeply. The whole town was dominated by the old citadel, situated in the upper part. The road sloped up steeply into the center of the upper town and then on to a cross-roads with routes leading to Brussels and Fleurus. However, despite the natural strength of the position, the town fortifications were in a state of disrepair, and Charleroi was no longer considered a fortified place.

Now we have the citadel (apparently in good repair, with high walls), but where is the town that the citadel is supposed to "dominate"?

On another topic, why is the Thyle River an unfordable creek? I have walked the banks of that waterway near Quatre-Bras; it is about ankle-deep, and 1 meter wide. I have photographs. Rather than a creek, it ought to be rated, at least in its southern stretches, as an eminently fordable stream.

Possibly, I'll review this and see what other info I can find on it for the next patch.

I based that on the topographical map I used as a source, and the way the map maker represented it. Not for sure, but its quite possible it has changed in the last 190 years or so...but if you have period info that you want to share with me I'll be glad to revisit it...just send it to me at Support@hpssims.com

A note on Charleroi - the town was fairly dense and mostly within the fortifications. The old (HPS) footprint of Charleroi was more like the outerworks etc (which by 1815 were in disrepair as noted).

Updated (17.10.06) pdt files for the company level Waterloo scenarios are now available at:

http://www.xtreme-gamer.com/forums/down ... le&id=1298

NB: These files are currently draft files (ie. not an official HPS update)

Disrupted movement allowance has been set at full allowance, rather than 2/3 as in the standard HPS Waterloo_102 patch. Feedback on whether allowing disrupted units full movement would be much appreciated.

This decision was made because:

1./ Disrupted attacking units get significant fire and melee penalties, making it better to keep disrupted troops out of the front line.

2./ Disrupted defending/retreating units tend to get left behind. While increasing the disrupted movement allowance from 1/2 to 2/3 in the most recent official patch is clearly a step in the right direction, this is still not sufficient to allow disrupted troops to keep up with other retreating troops.
