i recently started the Jean Campaign and found that there are only 4 places to cross the Saale River. I was wondering if this was historical or are there some fords that I am missing. I think that with only these crossing the Prussians will have a pretty good idea where the French are coming from. Comments?

The bridges play more of a part for the Prussian player actually as especially that Erfurt-Jena-to the east highway is of vital import. The fact that there are only 4 bridges will not stop the French as if they want they can mass their army to the east (Historical) and just ignore the Jena side of the Saal. Or they can go up the left bank and just ignore the right bank.

The main thing for the Prussians to do in the large scenarios is to keep a cavalry screen out to locate the French.

And yes, the number of bridges is both historical and by design. If the Prussians want to destroy the bridges to the south of Jena then the French can just repair them if he likes.

Only to some degree will the bridges play a part in the choice where the French army comes in from the west (Fulda).
