Yes, Davout was at the crossing site with the III Corps. Read Bowden, Chandler, Esposito, etc.

I am having a hard time understanding where you think that the scenario is not historical. Could you be a bit more specific.

What about Davout or his corps is not correct? Am not offended of course. Just trying to follow where you are having a problem.

What Clifton is trying to say I think is that historically the French (Davout)should be able to reach the Marchfeld by dawn. And Glinzendorf by noon. That's impossible in scenario 10H as the bridges do not allow a whole corps to cross and cover the distance in the necessary time.

I've not played it so can't comment. I can't be bothered to do the maths either. Merely translating.

The opening hours of the first day have differing accounts. For instance:

Bowden says Gross-Enzerdorf was in Massena's hands by 5am.

Arnold says that the 46th Ligne started its assault on the village at 8am.

As to Davout's corps in particular.

Arnold says that the grand march across the Marchfeld began around noon. You say that Davout should make it to Glintzendorf by noon. I disagree and so does every account I have. Pg 126 of Arnold's "Napoleon Conquers Austria" says that "In midafternoon Napoleon's army surged across through Raasdorf toward Wagram."

Petre says that Enzerdorf was in Massena's hands by 8am. That Rutzendorf (Rudzendorf on the map) was in Davout's hands by noon.

Now as to whether Davout can make it to Rutzendorf by noon with some part of his command ... I dont doubt that this is possible. Remember the Austrians didnt put up much of a resistance. I have yet to read it said that his entire corps was at Rutzendorf. When you read the name Davout it doesnt always mean his entire command.

I may undertake to try out the maneuver again, just moving Davout's units. Just to see how far he can be by noon ...

Mon Ami now I know you are right like I said I could never get there by noone lest at dawn. It's not you but some writers have it wrong and by playing it I belive that after 12pm is possible. And the battle had to be late afternoone heading towards dark on the 5th. Merci mon ami for your consideration.

For what its worth ... I did a test game last night til 3am. Put in about 15 turns and by 0600 I had most of Davout across but was still working on the bridges. I now have a plan I think that will get ONE bridge in each area up to 100 quickly so cav can cross and then I switch over to the other bridge and build it up to 150.

I will try it out again at a later date.
