To all,

My main computer that I play games on has died after 6 years of service. Unfortuantely I'm having troubles loading the game on a new computer. I have tried this on two computers and the loads ends at the same place each time (I'm doing the compact installation but the failure occurs on the typical installation also). The error:

At 38% load, while loading user.hlp (same file always) I get a "Data Error: Cycle redundency check. Component transfer error."

The load the stop and closes the instaall shield.

What can I do?

The game was HPS: Eckmuhl. Thanks!

Hm, I'd say first and foremost, look at your disk and see if it's scratched.

Otherwise, it's time to email Rich Hamilton... support@hpssims.com as memory serves.

Doug,

Something that might work would be to copy the Campaign Eckmuhl directory from the disk to your HPS Simulations directory on your hard drive (rather than running the install program). When you download the updates from HPS I imagine there was a new user.hlp file anyways.

You could make a backup copy of the CDROM and then install from that backup.

That method should correct your problem.

Doug,

Based on my own experience,[B)] I suspect the problems you are having are due to the Vista OS that came with your new PC. Go to the HPS website and go through their "Got Vista" FAQ:
http://www.hpssims.com/vistahelp.htm

In particular, I recall that Vista no longer supports the help (hlp) routines and you will have to manually deal with that. You should also NOT install the games in the "C:\Program Folders\" directory.

Good luck!

Yep. Most probably the source disc is damaged. Copying the directory from the disc manually should solve the problem, unless there are more essential files damaged (i don't think you need to use help files anyway). Just skip those you can't copy onto your hard drive and note their names so you know what is missing. And, as someone wrote, some of the files are replaced with a patch anyway. Video and music files are not essential for the game to run, so you can skip them.

This sounds like a CD error to me, not VISTA, BUT Doug, you still should go to the HPS website and read the VISTA page that they posted (link is at very top of HPS website - www.hpssims.com).

Replacement CDs are available I believe. Contact Rich about them.

BUT, copying the disk is a quicker option.

That doesnt make sense Ernst. A bad disk will just bring up bad errors.

Or have you ever successfully done that? Never worked for me.
